The competition is wide open for the Vikings' backup wide receiver positions

Kirk Cousins arrived in Minnesota knowing two things about his receiver corps: Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs are stars in the making, if not already, and the rest of the depth chart consists of wide-open lanes for unproven targets.
That’s how the Vikings’ most intriguing roster battle remains midway through training camp, where Laquon Treadwell, Kendall Wright, Stacy Coley, Brandon Zylstra, Tarvarres King, Cayleb Jones and others are stating cases for receiver spots three, four, five and possibly six.
Only one of them is a lock: Treadwell, the maligned former first-round pick entering his third NFL season with 21 career catches. He’s taken nearly every snap this offseason as the third receiver. He keeps catching passes, too.

Behind Treadwell, the Vikings are looking for their young receivers to stand out on special teams. That’s how non-contributors on offense get playing time. Coach Mike Zimmer appeared in a special teams meeting this spring to tell younger players just that — play the third phases or not at all.

Anyone else surprised that we aren't hearing much about Kendall Wright?

sounds like so far that if Zylstra shows good in ST he is likely making the cut.  nothing but posititves on his receiving our route running any way.

With the same jersey number, Zimmer probably thought he was Jarius and refused to let him on the field :p

Some rumblings I've heard is that he's the last one on the field and first one off...  and he hasn't been very engaged in the meeting room.

If true, I wouldn't be surprised if Wright gets limited snaps this season.  Zimmer rewards guys who work and practice hard.

Could be the reason we haven't heard much chatter about him...

Stacy Coley stood out a bit last night.  He made a great back shoulder catch and had a few other receptions.  He looks much better than last year.

Vikings seem to have a history of over-valuing any WR who wore a Bears uniform.

There is no reason whatsoever that Treadwell should be considered a lock to make the team.

I really dont think thats the Case anymore, even with the cap implications. I think the talent around him has gotten that much better. Some of those kids look to have some pretty high ceilings.

Things should heat up plenty now with scrimmages and a ps game vs the Jags over the next week.
