Per Tom Pelissero and Mike Garafolo. Good news. He'll sign it this morning, its agreed to.

5 year extension that will tie him to the team for the next 6 years.  Around $14 mill per year.

Durability and at least a thousand yard season.
I would have preferred to see some sort of protections or incentives built into his contract,  but I am sure some team would be more than happy to pay him more with less restrictions if they were to push the issue.

Great news for the Vikes, and of course, Diggs.  I'm just not so sure the highest paid WR is the best one.  AT runs as good or even better routes and arguably has better hands.  Although Diggs has better moves and is most likely a bit faster.  The Vikings did well financially signing AT to an extension before the '17 season.

What else is there to add. I'll just say, yep.  Time to stay healthy and earn it. Glad we got him but worried too.

Its the going rate. Not sure how else the team could have or would have handled it. You keep talent or let them walk. Diggs blows up this year and the contract parameters for resigning becomes something larger. Look at Thielen....his contract now looks very good for the team. You mitigate it where you can and that always comes with being proactive. Bet on the come.

The salary cap keeps going up and has mechanisms for lots of flexibility. Fans should worry less and have more faith in a team and guy (Brez) who's made great deal after great deal.

Note when position contracts are comped to each other, it's strictly new money. So for all intents and purposes, Diggs just got Nuk/Cooks money with slightly less in practical guarantees.

#Vikings salary-cap guru Rob Brzezinski is one of the best in NFL. Vikings know what they need to do to balance delicate salary-cap situation and Stefon Diggs deal is in line with what they've been hoping to do moving forward. Next up Anthony Barr We'll see if that remains tricky

Diggs deal now gives the Vikings a core of talented players all under contract for the next several years. Diggs, Thielen, Hunter, Kendricks, Rhodes, Kirk CousinsEverson GriffenLinval JosephRiley ReiffHarrison Smith and Dalvin Cook are all signed at least through the 2020 season.

Gotta love the last two lines of the article:

The Vikings are stacked for the long-haul, friends. Get used to a lot of Purple parties the next several years.

I'm calculating an average of $16/year and not $14.. $81ish for 5 years. Am I looking at this wrong?

$81M would include all UTBE incentives.

Well, good thing Thielen has the small town MN mentality and outwardly will be happy for Diggs.  Still, gotta think he can't be thrilled inside with the disparity between their contracts.

Would one of those be "a 1,000 yard season" perhaps?  *zing* :p

The only things keeping Diggs from being among the absolute top-tier of NFL WRs are consistency and staying healthy.  IMO he has too many games where he has around 30 yards or less receiving (or isn't on the field at all).  The tools are all there, hopefully he can put them to use a little more consistently this year.

We need a "you beat me to it" button...

Man, I definitely under stand the rationale behind signing him, but damn that's a shit ton of coin for someone who can't stay on the field...We are still about 10 million under the cap...hopefully we can sign Barr and tag Richardson if it comes to it...

AT should have waited on the extension  then.

I think AT played above his ability this past year, I think he's still a good player and him and Diggs together are definitely a top 5 duo, but ATs numbers will dip a bit.

The money did make me blink, but I'm so glad we've got him locked up.  Yes he's gotten dinged, but man does he show up for the bright lights (USB opener vs GB, 2017 home opener vs. NO, Minneapolis Miracle)

As for the Barr or Waynes question posed earlier in the thread, Waynes' 5th year option keeps him here through '19 while Barr could be gone after this season.  If the team wants Barr back, he'll be next.

I loved listening to him talk about what it means to him. He got emotional when he talked about his mom and dad. I am happy for him.

Diggs is such a well rounded receiver. Speed, routes, hands, contested catches, deep tracking, RAC...he's got it all. Then you consider that he's also a good kid. Works his ass off. Everyone on the team seems to love him. No off field issues. Sure, never went over 1,000 but let's not forget that in his 3 seasons he's had 5 different QBs. His upside not just as a player but as a local celebrity and ticket seller is ENORMOUS.
