Easier $$ to fit the cap?
Position?
# of Snaps?
Upside?
Other?

I like Kendricks, but Barr imo has higher ceiling, more plays, so important in this scheme. Maybe if I bothered to look at the stats the last few seasons I'd see why??

Hurry-up Vikings, we ain't getting any younger!

Kendricks is a very active LB that seems to always be in the right place. Playmaker. He has more combined tackles than Barr playing one less year and on pace for more sacks. Kendricks has 2 INTs for TDs, Barr has just one INT overall.

I mean, Barr gets this rep that he's a 'playmaker' but Kendricks is more of one and the stats bear it out, also. That's why he got resigned before Barr. More important to this defense. Honestly, if you just look at stats (doesn't tell the whole story, I know) Barr's are very pedestrian. Its his potential upside that coaches and fans are waiting for.....maybe it doesn't come? I'll be curious to see if he gets signed this offseason.

Kendricks is that sideline to sideline LB that every DC covets...he covers pretty good and is a tackling machine.....not sure I could see any reason not to pay him first.

Agree with Sticky and Jimmy.  I would definitely have signed Kendricks before Barr if it was up to me.  I keep hearing about all of Barr's upside but not sure when or if we're ever gonna see it.  On the other hand, I think Kendricks has exceeded all expectations he came in with.

Why not? He earned it. Obviously the coaches and front office think he is worth it. Watching him play, he is all over the place making things happen. He is smart and hard working and it shows in his play.

Not sure if there was any sinister reasoning in signing one instead of the other at this time---more likely just first agent that blinked and met in a more common point of the negotiations and got the ball rolling.

I think it fundamentally comes down to value.  All of the guys we're trying to resign are good players, but Kendricks at $10M is just a better value than Barr at $14M+ or whatever he's asking.  If you can get similar talent for $4M less a year that leaves you more room for signing the other guys or adding to Thielens contract in a year or two.

Because he was a 2nd round pick, 1 year less control, prior to possibly reaching the open market. You don’t want your best core players out there on that open market.

As someone else stated, the main reason is that our offers started out closer and were easier negotiations for Kendricks and Hunter.

Our original offers for Barr and Diggs are way off thus negotiations are in order.  I don't think their is a big reason for any order other then that.

Now, left with two to resign we maybe only able to afford one now and see how the other performs this year to warrant big money.  heck we may let both of them play this year without an extension and wait and see approach.  See if Diggs can stay healthy and be a #1 WR like he wants to be paid even though Theilan has been the more consistent WR.  See if Barr can play consistent for a whole season and put him in positions to rush the passer more.  Barr was a better tackler last year but his first three years he was noted as having a lot of missed tackles.  I think both Diggs (#1 WR money) and Barr (pass rushing 3-4 LB money) are asking for too much while Kendicks and Hunter were negotiable from the get-go.
