OK, I get that the Eagles are really really good on the DL. Their QB is headed for greatness, their OL is solid, as is their receiving corps. But their linebackers are average at best and their secondary is questionable. Yeah, I LOVE what they did in drafting Sidney Jones last year, but he's still essentially an unproven rookie they're counting on to start this year. I'd put our WRs, RB, LBs and DBs ahead of theirs. We'll call the DLs a tie. And that's being nice. Don't forget they lost Vinny Curry and Jernigan is likely out for at least half the season, if not his career.

And I get that the Jags have a formidable defense and a good running game.  But you really like the talent on a team lead by Blake freaking Bortles (with NOBODY behind him) and a cast of nobodies at WR after they lost Allen Robinson? Yeah, they drafted Chark, whom I love, but again, we're talking about a ROOKIE. Rookie receivers rarely have an impact. I'd put our WRs, QB way WAY ahead of theirs. The QB should count for half of these grades. Defenses are comparable.

The Rams I get. Putting Suh next to Donald is a frightening thought. And they've added a lot of bite to that roster in Cooks, Peters and Talib. I won't even consider the potential personality conflict because we're talking paper. This is a very good team on paper. Their OL is OK, probably a little better than ours. Can't argue with their back. A good debate between Goff and Cousins. I like our receivers better. The DLs are both outstanding, both secondaries are very good, but our linebackers are much much better.

I'd rank them

Vikings
Rams
Eagles
Saints

Well the Eagles played like the best when it counted most so they are still first in my book.  The addition of Richardson and a healthy Griffen should help but our DL was not dominant in either playoff game.

Yeah, but that's not what this is about. This about evaluating current depth charts, not who played best last year when it counted. You want that, I can give you an exact ranking of all 32 teams.

I understood the paper rankings but I still go by the latest performance over a paper roster....Eagles #1

The Eagles get the edge because they won the Super Bowl regardless of what they lost or gained. The Rams d improved and they were already good. Same goes for the Jags defense. Both of their offenses are the key. We'll see if Goff can sustain his performance. As far as Bortles, meh whatever. I am looking forward to seeing how much better the Vikings are on offense and defense.

Then wouldn't the Patriots have be 2nd regardless of what they lost or gained? And the Vikings 3rd regardless of what they lost or gained? Jags 4th? Etc, etc? I think I'm sensing a pattern here. :-)

Apparently the Eagles are the darlings for now. The Patriots are going to be in the mix. The Vikings got ass blasted (my son's expression) so they have more to prove to get to the next level. On paper there are a lot of upgrades.  The talking heads will put the Jags and Rams before the Vikings. They want some new teams to hype.

Vikes are top 4 imo...I'm good with that in June.

Hard for me to rate another team higher than the Eagles right now.

It will be decided on the field. The rest of it does not matter.

Agreed. But I also think the Eagles have a bunch of talent too. If Cousins can be the kind of consistent offensive force at the position that the Vikings think he can be, Minnesota can play with any team. They are as talented as anyone. And its that kind of window where you can hopefully win it all at some point.

NO not necessarily, like mentioned the Vikings DLine did not play well in either playoff game and Griff was injured.  I would not rank them in order of finish but the Eagles DLine stepped up the most when needed and so did the Jags.
