Teddy Bridgewater looks sharp, healthy in practice with Jets

After signing with the Jets in March, Bridgewater is moving on from his painful past.
“I’m just focused on the now and what’s ahead of me,” he said. “I’m happy to be here. We have a great team, a group of young guys who are anxious to continue to make noise in this league. That’s very exciting to be a part of.”
It was uncertain as to how much Bridgewater would be able to do at the start of OTAs, but the quarterback wasn’t limited despite having his left knee wrapped. It was an encouraging performance as he worked behind incumbent starter Josh McCown with the first-team offense in team drills.
“He moved well today,” coach Todd Bowles said.
His throws were mostly sharp, and he scrambled around the field several times — showing flashes of the playmaking ability that made him a Pro Bowl selection in his second season in 2015.
“I’ve been working with the training staff,” Bridgewater said. “We’ve been making some great progress. The goal is to get better each day. That’s our primary focus right now. That’s my focus as an individual goal, and we’re going to continue to just make those strides.”

I hope he wins that starting job.  It is going to be one of the most interesting things to watch this year.
Kick ass Teddy

That great for him personally. They drafted a QB 3rd overall. Unless the team as a whole kicks @ss they are going to the future. I believe it will be before week 8 by their roster.

Maybe Teddy can play his way onto another team and get a shot at starting with a good preseason....it won't be happening on the Jets. But I wish the best for the kid for sure.

I wish nothing but the best for Teddy. It rips at my heart that he's no longer a Viking but I'll always cheer for him no matter who he plays for.

if he looks good they will trade him out of camp.  he has the highest risk and the least amount of attachment in the organization, although JM might be the one they put up for sale since Teddys age makes him more valuable long term if their draft pick falls on his face.

Gonna be an interesting situation to watch. Darnold is a rookie who's not even 21 yet. They would be foolish to put him anywhere near the starting lineup this season.

While McCown is the default starter, he's 39 years old and on his 11th team. I can't imagine him impressing anyone in training camp. If Teddy's healthy (and that is the big question) his accuracy and mobility is probably going to make him at least LOOK like the best QB in camp this summer.

There was some recent study done showing that sitting a rookie QB does nothing to help him. You either have it or you don't. Maybe you don't start him Day 1, but after half the season or more, there's no value in sitting him especially if the team is already out of contention.

If the Jets start out 3-7 or something similar, don't be surprised to see Darnold in there. It won't be Teddy. I could see TB in there if McCown gets injured early. I just don't get why Teddy chose the Jets. Its not a good situation for him at all.

Jets were Teddy's only option.

I don't know if the Jets were his only option, but it was probably the best option for him contractually.

Free agency becomes a frenzy of owners throwing money at players. The Jets were at the short end of the stick with the top free agent QBS. They offered Teddy something that was more market competitive than many thought he would actually get. I think Teddy could have waited... I can't imagine he would have been hard pressed to find someone willing to give him an opportunity to compete...

But, who else would have given him a $1m guarantee and $6m total for 1 season? No one. Signing that NY deal is a no brainer. That's a great deal if the season ends up being a year long rehab season...

... and even if they cut him, he pockets a $1m and ends up signing elsewhere.

Proving he is healthy is important when it comes to financial commitment. If he stays healthy and shows even flashes of his former mobility, who is to say he won't command more money next free agency? When garbage QBs seem to get paid a ton in the name of stability, hype, or whatever, why wouldn't the market double down on a guy who is seemingly healthy?

Arguably, the Jets drafting a QB was the best thing that could have happened to Teddy contractually. B) The knee suddenly isn't the reason people expect him out of New York. The knee won't be an instantly believable justification for a decision to release him. If people expect it, teams will as well. If he keeps putting up wicked practice tape while the hype turns positive around his knee, he'll have a small little competitive market for his services if it happened before the coming season. If he makes it though the season, no one is going to knock him for not being able to hold the job from a No. 3 overall draft pick... He'll get P-A-I-D as a free agent next year.

It's all about the knee. If he proves completely healthy, Teddy will be the day one starter. There isn't a better QB on that roster. But I don't think he's out of the woods yet, considering it was just a month ago that his coach wasn't sure how much he would be able to participate in OTAs. And OTAs are a damn long way from live bullets flying around that knee.

I am so happy for him and wish him all the best. He is such a likable guy that I would watch the CFL if he ever ended up there. I am rooting for him. I know some people were upset by the whole Teddy feeling hurt and lack of respect thing. But seriously, in the grand scheme of things, he was a good Viking. He is a good guy with a good head on his shoulders. I don't blame him for his emotions. He did a good job of handling a situation that wasn't easy. Nothing but love for him.

It is good to see him practicing with the Jets but he was doing the same things here last year before they activated him.

In the end, he is going against air.

Like Bruce Lee said ...  "boards don't hit back".

Got to wait to see him against live action.

I hope he does well and wins the starting job there.  I really do.

It would mean a better compensatory pick for the Vikings in 2019.

According to ESPN Jets reporter Rich Cimini, Teddy Bridgewater's trade value is "trending upward." Cimini said the former Viking was "one of the bright spots" at last week's OTAs. The Jets originally signed Bridgewater with the intent of trading him for a draft pick, but Cimini cautions that coach Todd Bowles will start the best quarterback and that could very well be Bridgewater. Even in the unlikely event that he does win the starting job this summer, Bridgewater would just be keeping the seat warm for first-round rookie Sam Darnold.

I would think unless Teddy just lights it up, this is probably the case. The franchise has too much invested in the rook. But Teddy can do so much for his brand and himself if he does well until then. That's got to be defined as a win for him - especially if he becomes a valuable asset in the league.

He will probably get an opportunity, but not necessarily in New York. Sad but true but it would be due to injury or poor performance.  I don't wish injury on anyone but I want him to get another shot.

I just don't think Sam Darnold plays into the equation that much.  Teddy's only on a one year contract.  He's just trying to show teams that he's healthy and show off his arm.  I think his main goal is just to beat McCown and Darnold for the game one starting position and to put some productive games on tape.  He just needs to get rid of the idea that his knee can't be trusted.
