Compton and Isidora starting at the guard spots. Remmers at tackle. Coley and Robertson left with injuries - Coley's does not appear to be serious. Don't know about Robertson. Barr will not be attending OTAs.

Wouldn’t a Barr extension today actually improve our cap situation of approximately $17 million dollars. His extension could allow us to pick up enough cash to extend Diggs and maybe Hunter this offseason

I wonder if the Vikings may flirt with Mychal Kendricks while they are negotiating with Barr. They are not the same type of player, but even so, Kendricks+Kendricks is a lot more palatable than Kendricks+Gedeon.

I suppose it all depends on what he is expecting his new deal to look like?  he is scheduled to make about 12 million this year,  but if he fancies himself as a 14 million a year guy then no its unlikely that he would restructure for much less than what he is scheduled to currently make unless they get crazy with the guaranteed money which based on his performance history to date would be pretty scary.

So, can it be assumed this is a contract thing?
If so, I'm not surprised. I think Barr thinks he's the second coming of Von Miller. He is not. Maybe he's a little miffed that Kendricks got a new deal before he did...or maybe I'm just chucking a handful of @&%# at the wall to see what sticks...

No, Barr isn't Von Miller. But he plays a position which is arguably more complex and less likely to generate gaudy stats. His physical potential might be near Miller's if he was in the same role. My concern is that Barr and his agent might believe that if he can get to free agency, he can sign a one-year deal with a 3-4 team and become a big-stats pass rusher, then hit free agency again in 2020 at age 28 and sign a huge deal. There are a lot of "ifs" there, but young athletes usually believe they are able to beat the odds.

@"MaroonBells" said: Probably. But I also think he's 3rd on that list. You don't give a QB 84M guaranteed and then take away one of his best weapons. Pass rushers like Hunter are gold, especially considering the age of Robison and Griffen.  He's not going anywhere.

I love Anthony Barr, my son has his jersey, but I think he plays a position that is easier replaced than a star receiver and a pass rusher. Not sure what the Vikings are going to do with this one, but I fear this contract thing could turn into a year of pouting and half effort.

Star receivers ARE  hard to replace!! Makes me really glad Adam Thielen is under contract for the next few years so we don't have to worry about it yet..

Seriously, I just don't see enough cap space to make Barr, Diggs, and Hunter all happy. Two of them, yes, but not 3. If it were up to me, I would make Diggs the third priority. But we all have our own perspectives on this.

Barring injury, this is the year that Diggs makes everyone appreciate just how good he really is.

in fairness.... barring injury seems to be what has hampered his efforts thus far.  I am not holding my breath that this is the year that he breaks that streak.  he is a phenomenal talent,  but he leaves himself exposed at times to big hits and his frame doesnt seem to handle them well.

Haven't all his injuries been soft-tissue things? Groins, hammies, etc? Agree though. He's got to play 16 games. I mean 19.

A great video, thanks for posting. I watched it several times  Thielen going up for that last one while Hughes was shut out was great to watch. I wonder who the guy is who gets paid to stand in front of the QB as he passes it waiting to take a fastball full on to the face. :o

Where's the beer can he's supposed to be balancing on his head?  Is this a QB competition or not?

Ben Leber said Diggs looks a little bigger and stronger in OTAs than last year.

IIRC that was said last year as well.  stands to reason that a kid that came to the team after a major injury issue in college would show some decent growth his first few years in the pros with their nutrition and strength programs.

Diggs was a top-rated WR coming out of high school....I mean a big time college prospect. He ended up going to Maryland for family reasons but all the top programs were after him. He's hitting his potential as a pro and Minnesota is benefiting.

all that,  but wasnt it his final year at Maryland he had the lacerated kidney?  something like that would have to take a guy away from his workouts for a while I would think.

I hate to question Diggs because he has been our best drafted WR since Moss and the very best player to come out of all the round 5-7 picks we collect.

But I'm not sure he's really an irreplaceable superstar WR. He has made exceptional plays, but what are the qualities that make him elite? Most people say he has not had a thousand yard season only due to injuries, but the truth is, he has a lot of very ordinary games. In 2017 Diggs started 14 regular season and 2 playoff games - and he only went over 100 yards twice. Yes, I know the Vikings didn't run a heavy passing offense, but he has a lot of games where he goes 4-for-32 or 5-for-30, even when healthy. He will break off an occasional big day, but a lot of teams seem to be able to limit him.

If Diggs misses a few games this year, we might find that Kendall Wright can step in and do a lot of things nearly as well. To be fair, last year I thought Michael Floyd might step in when Diggs was out and be impressive, so this may be entirely unfounded.
