3) Mike Hughes, CB, Minnesota Vikings
Drafted No. 30 overall.

The Vikings' roster was very strong and well-rounded before the draft. Adding a corner like Hughes at the very end of the first round provides both depth this year and a bridge to the future in their secondary at a very low cost.
In addition to corner Xavier Rhodes (a five-year veteran coming off his first All-Pro season), 39-year-old Terence Newman had been a big part of this extremely productive defensive backfield, helping the Vikings post the NFL's stingiest third-down defense (allowing a 25.2 percent conversion rate on the all-important down) and allow the second-fewest passing yards per game (192.4). But Newman remains unsigned for 2018 and will turn 40 in September. A corner like Hughes, who, per PFF, allowed just 34 receptions for 301 yards with less than 2 yards after contact per reception in 2017, along with a 43.8 passer rating (with four interceptions and nine pass breakups), adds depth and youth to the Vikings corners. At UCF, Hughes also showed his ability as a return specialist, adding extra return on the Vikings' inexpensive investment.

I'm sure Kirk Cousins will be consoled by that as Aaron Donald is sacking him for the 3rd time...

That's fine,  the only reason Donald is on the field is Hughes picked Goff of for the third time in the first half....and has returned 2 for TDs,  Capn kirk is being cautious with a 28 point lead so he's not forcing the ball up into bad situations.

The Vikings were the 10th best scoring offense in the NFL last season.  And that was without our QB1 and RB1 for the majority of the year.  I think the Vikings offense will be pretty damn good again this season despite your reservations.  Any team would love to have a top 10 offense to pair with a #1 defense.

Pretty darn good is always nice.  #1 Defense is really nice.

I dont want nice.  I want a Superbowl while I am still alive.  We have a different perspective.

We all know that whoever wins the draft usually wins the SB, oh wait!

Hughes will see plenty of action as the 4th corner and in rotation like Zimmer likes to do at most positions.  Does not matter who lines up and starts the actual game other then to fans I guess.  Hunter is the recent example of a "starter on paper"  who was really just a rotational guy with Robison getting over 550 snaps.  Does not matter to the team but I guess to some fans it shows a successful pick vs not.  I would not be surprised if Hughes sees 500 snaps as a rookie and plays well as a returner, ST's, and CB and that is a successful pick on a loaded team IMO.

O'Neil, the drumbeat on him is the same across the board and is already being repeated by everyone who reads internet analysts after analyst - which is me as well.  The ole, he needs a year to build strength etc.  Well, what of we see him in a rotation towards the end of the year at RT or what if he starts due to an injury and plays decent is that a good pick for a second round Tackle?  Tackles are always over drafted - second to QB's anymore - what if O'neil sees a lot of quality action.

The injury to Easton and Elflein getting dinged really showed a weakness on the OL and not just at Guard it showed that Hill is not a very good RT.  He gave up the most pressures in the playoff's in two games and was beaten like a drum vs the Saints and Eagles.  The fact that we shuffled our RT to LG and put our Hill in was our 5 best OL but it backfired.  Now we have better depth with Hill backing up Reiff at LT - where he played much better.  O'Neil, IMO backing up Remmers at RT which was a weakness in the shuffle and we have about 5 players via'ing for the open Guard position.  Guards are much much easier to find, and significantly cheaper to the Cap then any Tackle.

If the 5 or so Guards don't stand out during camp or preseason there is still late cuts and there is usually a Guard or two available unlike any quality Tackle.

wow you are pissy lately.   are you sure you are still a fan of this team or did losing your favorite player sour your position on the Vikings for life?

What if I said, teams with a top 10 defense won the Super Bowl 7 out of the last 10 years
What if I said teams with a top 10 offense won the Super Bowl in 8 out of the last 10 years
What if I said a team with a top 10 offense AND a top 10 defense won the Super Bowl in 5 of the last 10 years?
The Vikings should be one of the most balanced teams in the NFL again this season.  That alone will give them pretty good odds to win a Super Bowl looking at this list.
2017- Eagles with #3 offense and #4 defense
2016- Patriots with #3 offense and #1 defense
2015- Broncos with #19 offense and #4 defense
2014- Patriots with #4 offense and #8 defense
2013- Seahawks with #9 offense and #1 defense
2012- Ravens with #10 offense and #12 defense
2011- Giants with #9 offense and #25 defense
2010- Packers with #10 offense and #2 defense
2009- Saints with #1 offense and #20 defense
2008- Steelers with #20 offense and #1 defense

Those injuries really showed how threadbare we are on the O line.  We seem to be about as threadbare for recievers.   Those injuries also showed how much more difficult it was for Chase to operate without some blocking.  People seem to be sure that it was Keenum’s fault and thaf it wont happen with Cousins because Keenum isnt a good QB but Cousins is.  I find this thinking silly but maybe we will see this season.  Hey maybe that new CB will help our D score some points this season.

Do you mean Kirk Cousins can't put up the same points This year as Case did last year?

What are you talkng about?  Ive been a fan long enough I dont have anytning to prove like a rat like you.
I have to agree with every draft pick to be a good enough fan to be here by your measurement?   What an ego.  Self centered little internet nuts think anyone who doesnt fall in line with their thinking is a problem.  Dont like what i write then dont read it.

I think the Vikings offense with Kirk Cousins will score more points per game than the 2017 offense with Case.

Will also be nice to have Cook and his 4.8 yds per carry for a full season and his screen ability.
