He's ba-a-a-ack...
so Newman and Waynes locked in today
My guess:
CB: Rhodes, Waynes, Alexander, Hughes, Hill, Newman as they give Marcus a chance after the 3rd preseason game to link up with a new team OR Newman can’t hang and moves to the Special assistant to the DB coqch position and they keep Marcus.
Did someone say we may try Hill at S or am I just making that up? This is likely Sendejo's last year. We need some cheap talent in order to pay the young guys who are coming off their rookie deals.
Zimmer said a couple days ago that he's toying with the idea of playing 4 corners and 1 safety in nickel. Rhodes, Waynes, Hughes and Alexander (or Newman) is an embarrassment of riches at corner. So I think Hill's future is at safety.
Mac is still trying to figure out the nickel position. I get that it is difficult with lots of things happening in a confined space. Newman has seen it all so he can handle it . . . until the day comes when his body is too old to do what his mind is telling him to do. I would see how Hughes does inside. Maybe he will just get it. Then we can Newman and Mac back up all 3 spots. And Hill can learn the safety position and takeover next year.
That's great news. Even if Newman doesn't play as much as he has the past two seasons, his mentorship to the young DBs on the roster is invaluable.

To think back prior to Zimmer, minus A. Winfield, this position was a position of embarrassment for a very long time, or perhaps it was the cover 2 that wasn't working.
now if we just had an OL we would be... INVINCIBLE!!!!

It was the talent. We've never even come close to having this much talent in the secondary. You could've said that last year and it would've been true. Now it's even more true. Here's a few names to remind us just how bad we were at identifying, drafting and developing secondary talent over the years: Eric Kelly, Chris Cook, Isaac Holt, Tyrone Carter, Kenny Wright, Ramos McDonald, Corey Fuller, (The Picture of) Torian Gray.Cover two played a part, too. Because the thought was that you didn't NEED top notch corners to play cover two. Still it was a long stretch of bad....Between drafting Joey Browner in 1983 and the current class that began in 2012 with Harry, Rhodes, Waynes, etc...there was NOTHING. That's nearly 30 years!
I love it, the old man is back, of course I’ve only got a little over 18 years on him... :p
