Foxsport's Cowherd: 'Signing Cousins makes Vikings NFCN favorites for forseeable future'
well glad we can rest easy now that Cowherder is okay with the signing.
I've always believed you could win a Super Bowl with an elite defense and an average offense with a game manager at QB. I think you can also win a Super Bowl with an elite offense and an "OK" defense.
But wow, adding a perennial 4,000 yard thrower to a team with the NFL's #1 defense, the best receiving duo in the game and Dalvin Cook, is a damned exciting proposition. One more OL and a QB2, and this could be the best team the Vikings have ever fielded.
Now...
How do we figure out what happened on the defensive side of the ball in the last 6 quarters of '17? Even going back to '16, it was our defense that fell apart and was mostly responsible for 2nd half of the season collapse. Zimmer needs to figure that shit out.
Makes me wonder if we maybe sacrifice a little "bad ass" mentality in the interest of a positive culture. I love this team of guys. I love reading in the paper about every one ELSE'S bad boys. When was the last time a Viking has been in trouble? But are our players too good? Too nice? Xavier Rhodes, Anthony Barr, Harrison Smith....these are the kind of guys you want your daughter to marry. Do we need a little bit more rip yer head off mentality? Just thinking out loud. No, I don't want a team of fuckups either.

We need a badass DT next to Linval. Is there any prayer at all in the universe that we could snag Richardson??
OR...I read also that Philly may need to cut Vinny Curry. What about adding him as a rotational piece?

Oh wait. Maybe not.

But we do need to improve our OL to make that happen. But wow, adding a perennial 4,000 yard thrower to a team with the NFL's #1 defense, the best receiving duo in the game and Dalvin Cook, is a damned exciting proposition. 2. If there's anyone who can tell Zimmer how the Eagles whipped his defense... it's DeFilippo.

I agree with this. Shore up the OL and get a good DT that will compliment Linval.|
I'm all-in on Cousins. He will be an upgrade over Keenum. The Vikings are going to be a tough team to beat...
Without any glaring holes to fill... we can go any number of directions in the draft. Goedert at TE in the first... maybe a stud pass rushers... look at the OL.
Possibilities are endless... Of course my Packer buddy still thinks the Packers are the team to beat with Rodgers back. We'll see...
Not to change the subject...but...to change the subject briefly, here's what I would call money foolishly spent:

Well Suh is now available. How would he look next to Linval?
DT would seem logical, but man we had no pass pressure those last 6 quarters. If we weren't blitzing, we were watching the QB roasting weenies back there the last few games. Before everyone blames EG's foot injury, I seem to remember the same type of situation the year before.
Our DE's seem to run out of gas at the end of the year. Hunter seems to have been figured out. He needs to develop some additional moves to consistently get to the QB. We also need depth at the position. We're also playing with fire if we don't get another DB or 2.

My oldest and I were just talking about this...Suh is still good enough to command a double team, but not good enough to consistently beat it...but, imagine if you have to choose between doubling Joseph or Suh...or Griffen...you want a little badass on the team...this might be a decent alternative to Richardson...
IMO Philly is the class of a stacked NFC and they just got better too.
Then you've got MN, ATL, LA and maybe (maybe) GB and Seattle.
Something just isn't sitting right with me regarding that Vikings D and I don't think it's just a long in the tooth double A gap scheme.
I think as fans we overrate some of our players on that side of the ball and our DL needs a 3t badly.

I wonder how Suh would fit in with Zim. Zim kind of has a history with the malcontents other teams discard, and "reforms" their careers. It's an interesting idea, and I could actually see it happen.

I agree, pf. The scheme has made this defense really tough. They're in position most of the time, and are really well coached. It does have weaknesses and needs to improve. That Philly D, especially the DLine, was the number one D in the league last year. The Vikes were good, but not that good.
Zim will be looking to continue to build the D, I'm sure.

I think the depth at DE has been lacking and as you say, the DEs run out of gas as the year goes on. BRob is the only sub worth playing time and he spends so much time on the interior in our nickle, that he really isn't a sub. Tom Johnson has been servicable, but I think he has really worn down the last two years late in the year.
So getting a threat at 3Tech and some quality depth at DE is probably our most critical need this year.

Well, you have Zimmer work with our new OC and de-construct everything from both perspectives. I figure that having both our HC/Defensive overseer and and OC that was part of the same Eagles team that walked on our otherwise stout D should make for a new set of schemes that create an even stingier defense.
I watched Cowherd this morning. He's generally bullsih on the Vikings and thinks that we just need a stable solid QB which is what Cousins is. But mostly I think he's down on the Packers. He really trashed them on their overall roster and wasting so much of Rodgers time.
