That would be one hell of a contract. Could/would the Vikes match this? Will be interesting to see if this offer is real.

This is ludicrous.  The Cardinals would have to get rid of most of their players to sign Cousins and Norwell to monster deals.

Spending that kind of cash...I'd rather sign Bradford to an one year deal, beef up the offensive and defensive lines this year and draft a quarterback the next year.

I'd be ok with Bradford but you better have a backup plan.  Even if we had 5 probowlers on the OL he's going to get hit from time to time.  The other thing is Bradford has never won more than 8 games in a season.

Just curious...has Cousins?  I don't know for sure on that one.

If that is the plan I guess as long as the D could keep teams under 10 points per game.
TB's less than 1 TD per game might get some wins.

The 3 years everyone talks about hes:  9-7, 8-7-1 and 7-9.  So yes but not really.

There is a reason Miami paid 22mil to get rid of Suh. Buyer beware...

Because they are over the cap, need a lot of help, have no realistic chance of winning now, and have finally realized that under this scenario it make no sense to pay $25M to an interior D-lineman.  I would not pay Suh that much either. But he is a force in the middle of a D-line. He would make our defense significantly better.

yep, thats the guy I prefer in 2018 with his $15-18M price tag vs hobbled knee 1 or 2 and the $30M+ man.

First of all, the Cards don't have the cap space to even make that offer.  Second of all, the contract is for LESS than $30 million.  Like it or not, that is going to be the new going rate for staring QBs in the league.  By the time that contract would be up (if it was real), I'm guessing that Cousins would be in the bottom half of the league (in terms of salary).  I don't understand why all the angst, when the "acceptable" salary was $27 (just $2 million a year difference).

I'm not saying we should pay that much... but it's not like the he's asking for $35 million per year...

Contract numbers are always fluff beyond the guaranteed amount.

The Vikings could easily afford this ...

5 yr 150 mil deal with a 50 mil signing bonus, 79 over 2 years, and 95 over 3 years
Year | Base Salary | Signing | Roster | Workout | Cap Hit | Dead Cap | Cap Savings
2018 | $14,000,000  | $10,000,000  |  | $100,000  | $24,100,000
2019 | $15,000,000  | $10,000,000  |  | $100,000  | $25,100,000
2020 | $16,000,000  | $10,000,000  |  | $100,000  | $26,100,000  | $30,000,000  | ($3,900,000)
2021 | $27,000,000  | $10,000,000  |  | $100,000  | $37,100,000  | $20,000,000  | $17,100,000
2022 | $28,000,000  | $10,000,000  |  | $100,000  | $38,100,000  | $10,000,000  | $28,100,000
Total | $100,000,000  | $50,000,000  | $0  | $500,000  | $150,500,000  | $30,100,000

The cap hits of 23, 25, & 26 in the first 3 years allows them to do what ever they want.
If he is playing really well after 3 years they can extend his deal a couple of years or more.
If not they eat 20 mil but save 17 mil in cap space.

It really is not a big deal but it is not how Brez would likely want to structure a deal either.

I doubt the Vikings would make this kind of offer.
I think they should probably come with a 5 yr 140 mil deal.
Take it or leave it.

It seems to me that a lot of fans want to get the Blue Light Special at the QB spot.
Can't pay too much because the player could be a bust or not worth it.
But at other positions it is OK.

All these other teams HAVE to offer a ginormous amount because they suck.

I mean these guys need a lot of other piece to either draft (those always work out) or sign as free agents.
The Vikings do not need to do that.  They are set pretty much.

Agreed.  And Cousin's contract will be the highest in NFL history for all of two weeks since Erin's and Matty Ice's are being re-done.
I can't see this scenario for the Cards with their cap issues.

I would take 3 years of 28 mil and offer it to Brees. NO cant pay him close to his value. He'll be here our entire SB window and have time to train up Sloter.

I like the Brees idea.  A lot.  But this Sloter hype is unreal.

What has he done besides throw 320 passes in college?

Actually Bradford (as injury prone as he is) doest seem to get hurt from hits.  I dont remember how he tore his first ACL but his second was against the vikes and he was running and the chalk line tripped him.  Last years injury had nothing to do with a hit.  If we remember his first season with the Vikes he got pounded behind that horrible line and yet made the entire season.  That being said you are right, we would for sure need a backup plan for his next injury but I dont know if having a stout OL would make any difference with him.
