RUMOR: 'Vikes view Keenum as backup', won't tag him, Brandt says Vikes/Cousins in play
@"StickyBun" said:well he may be only a landscaper to you... but based on past information.... he has a shot at a front office job with the browns as a player consultant.@"Ilovebigtd's" said: i doubt he knows anything tbh lol, agreed. I was actually goofing around about the landscaper dude, but he did just tell me that about 30 minutes ago. The Steelers have won 6 Superbowls, what do they know about our pain? ;)

Hehis agent could be playing the Viking mutual interest angle to squeeze more from others too.
When can the signings begin?
We all love Bradford's arm talent, but he can't move and create plays like Case can when things break down. Teddy could also do that prior to his injury but the jury is still out on his knee.
So what does all of that have to do with our QB decision? All of those guys are good enough to get us into the playoffs with the talent we have on offense, and our solid defense. Bradford has the arm talent, but I don't think he has the "it" factor needed to win a Super Bowl, and his lack of mobility is a major concern. Teddy and Case have the charisma and the mental "it" factor to be Super Bowl winning QB's, but their arm talent, lack of consistency, etc. are well documented. I think Cousins has the best combination of Leadership, mobility, and arm talent compared to the other three. That will come at a hefty price, but if we can make it work and still sign our Stars to extensions, I'm all in.
Listening to Denver talk radio at lunch and they're pretty much on suicide watch after this news. Jumping to a lot of conclusions in my opinion, but their thought is that if the Vikings aren't going to tag Keenum, it means they're definitely going after Cousins and there is no way the Broncos can compete with the Vikings in terms of supporting cast.

From what I know, Denver is very much still in the picture. Everyone is also connecting the dots that this means the Vikings are all-in on Cousins. Will they explore it, yes. But this front office has shown time and time again to set a price on players and refuse to exceed it. Not placing the tag on Keenum is showing they won't set the floor for a long-term extension at $23M. If someone else wants to give him that, great. But the door isn't completely shut. From the Bridgewater/Bradford side of things what motivation do you have to work on an extension with MN if Keenum is already on the tag. The timing of this "leak" is key since all negotiations are going to happen this upcoming week.

do you think players in states that allow pot are more likely to get randomly tested than non pot friendly states? or how about players that just had a road game in those states? seems like entrapment to me... :p

This makes no sense to me.
It is an NFL band substance. Same as the others on the long list of NFL band substances.
I'm sure Star caps are legal in most states.

It is up to Kirk to decide what he wants and the timing is what may ultimately make this decision. As the market starts to fall into place, Kirk wanting to take FA visits is going to make one of those three teams nervous (you all know them well). That could change things. But I would say that the two favorites are Minnesota and Denver with no clear favorite between the two.NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Vikings will be "in very heavy" on free agent Kirk Cousins. RapSheet's report was seconded by colleague Mike Garafolo, hours after NFL.com's Gil Brandt said the same thing. In addition to a win-now team and ample cap room, the Vikings can offer Cousins an indoor playing environment -- where all quarterbacks are historically more productive -- and an exciting young offensive nucleus of Stefon Diggs, Adam Thielen, Kyle Rudolph, and Dalvin Cook.

And, yes, I know despite what they all say, money always decides in these situations. But if the Vikings are truly "in," and they're prepared to give him a competitive offer, then he's already said (I think?) that the Vikings are #1 with a bullet. And, yes, I also know that it's in his best interest to gin up excitement, but it's also a very realistic estimation on his part. There isn't a better situation anywhere. From ownership to coaching staff to facilities to supporting cast, it's all there. This offense could make Tarvaris Jackson look good. Imagine what it'll do for someone with talent.@"MaroonBells" said:Everyone is just connecting dots. Its not as serious as the media is making it out to be. I have it on good terms that the Vikings weren't the ones who said they were going to "go heavy" for Cousins. Not to say that they won't be a factor (they'll be in the running), but they aren't the ones starting these rumors.
Its fairly obvious the Vikings are interested in Cousins, getting him is another thing altogether.
I think its about continuing to win now with a team that is poised to take another step up with a guy with more ability like Cousins. You can go in without giving up any more draft picks, like they had to with Bradford. Cousins work ethic and preparedness is off the charts good.
If they can sign him, I think they take that final step up to be the team to beat with Philly in the NFC.
If I'm the Vikings I see two options for my 13-3 built to win now team: Sign Cousins, and toll TB to backup or give him a low cost team friendly deal because he has no leverage.
Or believe what James Andrews recently said about Sam's knee and get him a 3-4 year deal with incentives for staying on the field (or tag him for a year and see how it goes) and again toll TB to be the backup. Cut Keenum loose in either case and say thanks for the memories.
where there’s smoke there’s fire.
im fine with Kirk, even as much as I have faith in Teddy. I can understand the decision to go out and get a perceived top flight, or borderline, franchise QB. IF the team views Kirk and what he has done that way, they need to pounce.
i do still hope we can toll Teddys contract and ensure we have a quality depth at position for the year.

In theory that is a good idea, but in reality it doesn't work that way.
I just relayed this latest round of news to my Redskins Roomie.
*siiiiiiiiiiiiiigh*
But hey you just got Alex Smith.
*siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh*
Hey he's not that bad.
*#notmyquarterback*
I lol'ed.

I"m not even sure what you're saying here. Can you be more specific?

Teddy won't be in Minnesota if Kirk ends up being signed. He wants playing time. Even if his contract tolls McGuire (agent) will get him out of there just like he did for Andre Johnson and Martellus Bennett.
