Darrell Bevell to interview for Vikes' OC job

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports ex-Seahawks OC Darrell Bevell will interview for the Vikings' offensive-coordinator vacancy this week.
Bevell was the Vikings' OC for five seasons from 2006-2010 in Adrian Peterson's prime, teaming up with Brett Favre to help lead the Vikings to the NFC Championship game in 2009, and also doing the best work with former dynamic weapon Percy Harvin. Bevell had been in Seattle ever since leaving Minnesota, but he could be headed back. He's also drawn interest from the Cardinals.

This will cause moans among a still suffering Vikings nation...Hell, I bet that little richard Childress called all the plays. Bevell was nothing more than the mouthpiece to the QB.

Seattle had a nice offense, but once Lynch left, their O was one dimensional.  They only got as far as their D took them.

Doesn't matter to me, but seems overly safe.

We better have a great QB.  Our passing offense sucked with Bevell here until they grabbed Favre.  Favre had more to do with the success in '09 than either Childress or Bevell and their KAO.

Why is Bevel getting credit for Childress offense?  That was Brads KAO not Darrels.

Not a fan of this move.  Why would Seattle let him go if he was so good? They had Wilson too.

Over the past few years, Seattle tried to build their OL as cheaply as possible. Wilson could it hide it some with his athleticism, but it got really bad there. How much responsibility Bevell has for that disaster remains to be seen, but he either wasn't given the proper tools to work with or he and his staff were unable to develop the talent he had. He at least had some success in Seattle, but their fans were ready to run him out of town this year.

The names thrown around so far in Bevell, McAdoo, and McCoy are all experienced coaches who have had mixed success. Shurmur was a retread too, but he had experience with an interesting mix of offenses and brought some innovative thinking. Neither of the three coaches mentioned generate any sort of excitement from me. Bevell seems like the least bad of the three, provided the OL situation was largely out of his control, but that's damning with faint praise. You'd just hope that after reaching the NFC Championship and knowing in advanced that Shurmur was gone that there would be some more interesting options available to us.

I wouldn't just dismiss the idea of Bevell. Although he brings more of a conservative approve to the offense, I think his offense with a healthy Cook could be a great partner with this defense.
