The sign (good omen) on Sunday
On Sunday, I was as nervous as one can possibly be about this game. I thought I would cook something and asked my wife if she minded if I make a low-country boil. The family loves it. For those of you who don't know what this is, ironically, it is more of a New Orleans thing (or at least Southern coastal) that apparently came about from a Confederate general who wanted to feed his troops. I went to Publix (the supermarket) to get the ingredients and while I was at the meat counter getting the shrimp and crab legs, "Let's Go Crazy" by Prince comes over the speakers of the supermarket. This isn't typically something I would hear in the supermarket, which plays more mellow tunes. I couldn't believe my ears and as the butcher was talking to me about the football game -- I said "This has got to be a sign!" Call me superstitious, but I had this really good feeling come about me.
I was wearing my Vikings jacket and as I went into the parking lot, a man yells to me, "Excuse me, sir! Excuse me, sir!" as I was putting the groceries in my truck. He points at my jacket and asks, "Are you a Vikings fan?" I said, "yes, I sure am" and he said "me too, I grew up in Rochester, MN" and moved here to Georgia.
Somehow, this series of events had me really feeling good the whole way through the game. I decided to be positive, no matter the circumstances, throughout the game. I prayed as well, continually, and especially toward the end.
That last play. I have probably watched it a hundred times and listened to Paul Allens radio call even more. As long-suffering Vikings fans, we have been heart-broken so many times in the past. This game, this team, the sign(s), the prayers -- what a happy day.
I looked at my son, wearing his Kendricks jersey, literally with tears in his eyes. This "Minneapolis Miracle" as PA called it, was just that.

Why did they fuck that up? Of all the 31 teams that they could've accidentally mailed me, it had to be a pair of Patriots sweatpants... I thought, Am I looking at a Super Bowl matchup?

I love Santa Monica. I used to live in Westwood while at UCLA then Century City for work. Santa Monica is great. I could never find a place there since everything seemed to be rent controlled and people would keep their apartments for 100 years. But that was a long time ago.

I'm in that minority. Found a rent controlled spot near the beach that was not only affordable, but was literally a steal. I'll never leave here. By Minnesota's rent standards, I'm still paying a fortune, but for the place I have, I'm easily paying a grand less a month than most people in this area.
