Brian wants to know if we (his mother and I) want to go to the game in Philly. I want y'al to help me decide.

No, I'm not trying to rub it in. Lol Honestly!!!

Im asking because of the reputation that Philly has (fans).
Has anyone been to Philly for a game and are they as bad as advertised?
Honest question because i don't want to have any trojble when we kick their butts.

POPS - you can't miss this one.  There are only so many championship games in a son's career.  It was 9 years ago since his last one, and don't think Brian plans to play into his 40s.  I lived in NY for a while and went to a game there. It was early 1990s and Brad Johnson was the 4th string QB.   It was at the old Vet, and it was rough.  Fans wearing Viking garb were heckled and intimidated.  But, if you are reasonable and are not trash-talking (I can't imagine you would) I think they would treat you fine.  It's not just a melee of people wanting to fight.  The security and police won't put up with it.

I say go....take your grandkids to protect you.....

Been to Philly but it's better than it used to be. There will be some dickheads everywhere, don't let that stop you. I say go for it. It's a big moment for Brian and for you and your family. Savor every single second of it.

I used to live in South Philly.  Went to the Viking game in early 90s with Sean Saulsbury and Rich Gannon.  They were assholes.  Threw shit at groups of Viking fans.

I was fine without purple on.  Go and enjoy.

I just looked up the game ... The one I went to was on December 31.  So fricking cold.

But it online it says we played October in 1990.  So mine was a different date than that one.

FWIW...If my son wants me there, it's a done deal. I don't care if I'm sitting between Hitler and Goering.

Ive only ever gone to Vike's away games for 45 years....cost prohibitive for a teacher to get to home games, but I've been to all the West coast stadiums...SD, LAC, Anaheim, Oak, Phoenix.
LA Raiders were the worst, but there's a few guidelines to going to away games:

Stay sober....you WILL be a target for verbal garbage, but you'll at least have YOUR common sense, and no alcoholic inspired bravado.

If you can go with a group of other Vikings fans....strength in numbers. love this!
Used to go with the So. CA Vikings fan club...what a blast.

Golden rule....be cool to the opposing fans around you. Cheer but don't trash talk.
(like that Chris Rock video on "how not to get your ass kicked by a cop")

Enjoy the game...if something goes right...celebrate....something goes wrong...shake your head.

Know that there WILL be verbal slings and arrows....they don't need to be returned.
ive been in situations where home fans have supported ME (Albeit not in Philly) and singled out the home crowd drunk as the problem to security.

You'll have a great time, there will be a few bumps, but MAN WHAT A RIDE!

:) Could go incognito and wear another teams jersey but who wants to do that.  Still it would be fun to wear a Patriots jersey and tell everyone you're an advance scout.   Or, maybe a Cleveland Browns and see if they give you any sympathy.

Pops,

I am also going.  I live about 2 hours from Philadelphia but a good friend has a company seat for me in the end zone.

If I had to pay I would probably not be going because of there fans.  I have been too about 12-14 different football stadiums over the years with many in Philly and NY.  Philly/Eagle fans are by far the worst fans I have seen and it has been on every occasion.  95% of those game were at the old vet - fwiw.  I think I have been to 2 Eagles games in the new stadium.

When I went to the old vet I didn't have any money so I sat in the cheap seats and there was always multiple fights and tons of tuanting and throwing stuff etc.

My first game at the new stadium was also corporate so nice 200 level seats.  I did not see any problems that game (against us/Vikings) until we were leaving.  Walking down the ramp I saw a brawl - 4 or 5 guys with fists being thrown.  We just avoided of course.  Then in the traffic leaving the game, I saw a road rage brawl of one guy attaching another guy after jumping out of his car.

Just want to share my experience.  It is almost an Eagle ritual to start drinking first thing in the morning and to look for fights.  I used to live about 15 minutes from the stadium and went to games with Eagles fans back in the day.

Now I have not been to an Eagles game (on purpose) in many years.  But do not wear any Viking garb and I will try and hide my Viking fandom as much as possible.  Sad but true.  Being a Championship game I expect Eagles fans to be drinking all day and for them to hold their well deserved title as worst fans in any sport.

Hope this helps.  I am going but I would not have if not for the freebie.

I wouldn't go, Pops. They will be liquored up big time with the later start, especially if the weather holds up to being at least decent as is now the forecast.

if youre wear 96 jeresys and arent a dick...probably even tell them thats your son is out there i cant imagine it getting to terrible at your seats. I would however wear a coat in and out of the stadium that covers your jersey. maybe even go in normal street clothes. i wouldnt miss it for the world. if youre already asking youll regret it later in life.

you are a proud father and a strong Texan... keep your business to yourself.  Dont give them any ammo,  none.  Just remember a friendly drunk before the game can be a miserable bastard if they are on the wrong side of the scoreboard.

Just going from personal experience at games, this will be a bad one unless the Eagles win easily.  Like sticky says,   late start equals more boozed up idiots,  the philly fans are eating up that disrespect card and are already kinda pissy about it... on top of being pissed they are philly fans to begin with.  their team hasnt had much success in the last decade,  they will be extra amped.   everything about this game says stay home... but thats not our nature now is it?

be smart,  be safe,  and enjoy the hell out of the experience brother.  tell B once again that we are so proud of them and what they have accomplished.

Hopefully Brob96 is a integral piece of the D this week.  The D works better with him on the field.  I'd like to see him start frankly over Hunter who has been on milk cartons all year.

I like that BRob has become the passing down specialist in that he isnt going to get wore down on running plays and his experience and freshness is much better utilitzed with the swiss army role he has been playing.  Our run D is not hurting with Hunter in there so why not let his young legs take those downs and keep BRob fresh for the plays that are potentially more game changing?  Also,  we dont know what Hunter is being asked to do,  he does get pressure,  but the D has been pretty basic in what they are asking from the front 4 lately,  I think we should wait and see what happens if they try and dial up some more stunts and such.  ( how much of this vanilla is because of Griffs foot issue?)

Thanks everyone, Jimmy, I'll try and follow the guidelines. Lol

I'v been to away games before in Dallas, Of course, Houston, NOLA and Atlanta. Proudly wore his jersey at all but the 2009 NCCG. wore it in NOLA the regular season game a couple of years ago. I had fun in Dallas heckling back and forth. Houston was good, at times. It helped that some of my friends and former workmates worked the game.
I was treated very well in Atlanta because my High School coach lived and retired there. He knew some pretty influential people and we were invited into a private suite there. Had no problem in GB, but the jersey was covered because of the weather.
Philly is a different animal though.
Their fan base is infamous  for being nasty.

I appreciate everyone helping me decide.  At first it seemed like a no brainer and quite honestly, now, it is to me.
I think i will go incognito though. It seems a bit safer.
I wish i could take you all with me but I'm sure you all will have better seats. Lol
Thanks agajn everyone.
