Charley Walters: Bradford activation likely means Teddy Bridgewater’s Vikings days are over
The Vikings’ decision on Saturday to activate quarterback Sam Bradford for Sunday afternoon’s playoff game against New Orleans would seem to indicate QB Teddy Bridgewater’s days in Minnesota probably are finished.
What will be intriguing against the Saints, considering Sunday is do or die for the Vikings, is how long coach Mike Zimmer waits to hook starter Case Keenumif Keenum falters. Bradford, remember, sliced up the Saints 29-19 in this season’s opener, passing for 346 yards and three touchdowns.

Hurry-up Vikings, we ain't getting any younger!

U.S. Bank Stadium could set some sort of record for decibel levels when the Vikings host the Saints.
“It’s hard to think about because that place is so electric for regular-season games — I’ll be excited to see that environment for a divisional-round playoff game,” Vikings tight end Kyle Rudolph said.
Rudolph said the Minneapolis stadium is the loudest he’s played in.
“And I can imagine it will be even louder on Sunday,” he said.

The way it looks now, if Vikings quarterback Case Keenum doesn’t flop against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, he might be able to land a $45 million ($17 million guaranteed), three-year free agent contract to remain in Minnesota.
The guess here is that Sam Bradford, 30, and Teddy Bridgewater, 25, will leave as free agents.
The oft-injured Bradford probably could expect a one-year deal elsewhere worth about $8 million
guaranteed; Bridgewater, his reliability still unknown, maybe $5 million guaranteed. Both deals would include incentives.
Possible sites for Bridgewater include Buffalo, Washington or home-state Miami. Bradford could end up in Buffalo or Denver.
The Vikings will continue to develop QB Kyle Sloter, 23, but would be expected to sign a veteran to back up Keenum.

Can't disagree.  I can't imagine Sammy would have been activated if coaches were confident TB was ready to play.

This is loser goes home.  Bradford had great sucess against the Saints.  Maybe Zim just doesnt want to look past this game.  if we win, he can draw it up differently for Philly.

I guess if they don't make him the #2 QB, what the hell was the sense of it all? That has to be the reason they did it. It was rumored....and the local media denied it was going to happen....and then it happened. Its the dumbest move ever if they don't put him as the #2 as Zimmer has NEVER had 3 QBs active for a game before.

And if they make him the #2 later today, how it can it NOT be a statement about Bridgewater? So its either: a very bold and telling move about their QB situation or its the dumbest bullshit ever that puts a playoff roster at 4 QBs and only 2 TEs.

And he might be. But then my question is why make Bradford active then? Zimmer has never had 3 QBs active on game day before. I don't get it.

I guess I'm trying to put logic to a situation that might not be logical?

Just gives them options and messes with the Saints heads. Maybe depending on the situation (hail mary) they put in sam to sling it?

How does it mess with the Saint's heads? Keenum is starting. 3 QBs in case they want to do a hail mary? That seems really goofy. I'm not trying to bust your balls, but nothing makes sense if he's not named the #2. Maybe its just a dumb move in general and means nothing about Bridgewater....I guess that's possible.

Good cause it doesn't mean a thing.  It just means the vikings have 3 real QB's as options.

Has Zim ever been in the situation of having a playoff game and the starter has no playoff experience,  and the next 2 QBs are both coming back from extended absences with no game experience to shake the rust loose?   Today is kind of unique and that may change how he approaches the most important position on the field.   I would be more comfortable with 2 unknowns at backup instead of just one.

jimmy, if Z has to go to a backup, the game is lost anyway.

I get that you are trying to make sense of it like everyone else.

I've started and stopped a reply to this about 3 times...I've got no idea why they would do this at this time in this situation with these QBs...the best...Nope, that's just a dumb idea too...

I don't think this is true.  What if the Vikes are ahead at half, and Case gets a concussion early in the third?  Who would you put in to salvage the win?

I would go with Sam.

Or - if you are down in fourth and Case is ineffective.  Would
you trust Sam or Teddy to bring us back?

Yes, of course if the change were injury related. Z is not making a change if the score is close, won't happen.

This is exactly where I am at. It seems extremely dumb or it says a ton about Teddy's future with the team: one or the other. And honestly, what does this say about their feelings on Keenum?

I have a totally different theory.  Sam captured lightning in a bottle in Game 1 against the Saints.  This is a team, and that Game 1 started us on the bumpy road that ended 13-3.  Zim is using his Tsu and wang chung to reward Sam and bring the team together to recognize that win, and stoke some form of karma and luck that Sam brought.  It's a way to say, "hey, he was on the field for that win, and we are going to allow him to at least dress."  It has absolutely no meaning that Sam is the #2 backup, nor that Teddy has been designated #2 backup.  If Keenum performs (again), there is no need.  But think about this for a second...you have wunderkind Keenum on the field, and not one, but two former #1 picks behind him...doesn't that just mess with your head a teeny bit, if you were the Saints?
