Jon Gruden Reportedly to Be Named Raiders HC on 10-Year, $100 Million ContractJon Gruden is back in the NFL.
Steve Corkran of Raiders Snake Pit reported that Gruden will be the team's next head coach, taking over for the recently fired Jack Del Rio, and that the announcement would be made at a press conference on Tuesday. It will be Gruden's second tenure as head coach of the Raiders.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Gruden is signing a 10-year, $100 million deal, the biggest in NFL history for a head coach.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Gruden already has Rams quarterback coach Greg Olson in place to be offensive coordinator, Bengals defensive coordinator Paul Guenther taking over the same role, and Cowboys special teams coach Rich Bisaccia filling the same position in Oakland.
Gruden, 54, last coached in the NFL for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2008 season. He spent seven seasons in Tampa Bay (2002-08), winning a Super Bowl in the 2002 campaign. Prior to that gig, Gruden served as head coach of the Raiders (1998-2001).

Jon Gruden
8 OF 11

    Record: 95-81

    Playoff Record: 5-4

Teams: Oakland Raiders 1998-2001, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2002-2008

When first thinking about him, it doesn't appear that Jon Gruden should be included on this list. After all, he did lead the Bucs to a Super Bowl victory in 2002 against his former Oakland Raider team.

Tampa Bay had acquired Gruden from the Raiders that very same year, giving up two first and two second-round picks, along with $8 million for the young head coach. Sadly, that first successful season was the pinnacle for Gruden as Tampa Bay's head coach.

In the next six seasons, the Bucs went 45-51 and did not win another playoff game.

At both Oakland and Tampa Bay, Gruden had difficulty developing a team and relied heavily on veterans for each team's success.

Rediculous contract  - IMO

The Raiders are paying him for his caricature of himself and marketing for Las Vegas market.  I can see trying to lure a Parcells type legend for that money but The Chin Grin 10 years removed = stupid IMO.  I predict the contract will last about 3 years after he and Carr don't meet expectations.  Just an early opinion/prediction.  Glad we have Zimmer, strong front office and Owners to take advantage of what should be a solid 5 year window.

Now's the chance for this blowhard to pick up Manziel as Carr's backup.

Not to mention that Davis signed, Del Rio, the now former Raiders’ coach to a four-year contract extension, believed to be worth around $20 million, in February!

The more I hear about Gruden, the more over-rated he seems to be.  I predict he'll have about 3 "good" season (no rings)... and then revert to form (.500 coach).

Vegas needs a caricature like Gruden to help fill the seats in the Nevada desert. He's definitely overrated. Been away from coaching for 9 years.

Gruden and Davis can get matching haircuts, and do a reality show. Football be damned, it's Vegas baby...

Latest reports are that it's  a 5 year $25M deal then it escalates.  So after 5 years they can get out of the contract easily.

So it's $5M/yr at first.  Not that crazy.

Still about 4mil/yr too much.  He was never as good as his press clippings and has been nothing but a windbag for 9+ yrs.  Stupid is AS STUPID DOES.
