Mike Zimmer says he'll again consider delegating Vikings play calling next season
Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer is again considering handing off defensive play calling to coordinator George Edwards, however only after this season ends.
Zimmer considered the switch last offseason, saying he was evaluating ways he could be a better head coach on game days.
" really does everything for me, other than I call the plays on Sunday," Zimmer said during a conference call with Chicago reporters on Wednesday. "But I may change that next year."
“George does everything,” Zimmer said. “He helps with the game plan. He runs a lot of the meetings, the defensive meetings. Him and I really sit down and talk about all the different things that are going on. He studies the game just like he’s calling the game. So he’ll come in and talk to me about second down-and-whatever. ‘They’re doing this,’ or, ‘they’re doing that.’ Really, he does everything other than call the game on Sunday.”

Hurry-up Vikings, we ain't getting any younger!
This is Zimmer's 18th NFL season calling plays, which he's alluded to as one of his strengths. The numbers prove it.
The Vikings are the NFL's No. 1 scoring defense entering the final regular season game. Minnesota has ranked no worse than 11th since hiring Zimmer.
"You know, I don't know," Zimmer said when asked why he'd delegate play calling. "It's a lot of work when you sit down and do it. I've done it for a long time. And because I have confidence in George, as well. I think maybe just the fact that, um, you know, I don't know – I guess I'm just getting older."
Sounds more like he is pumping up Edwards to help get him a HC job.
I'd rather he take a page from his mentor's approach and delegate other responsibilities like when to call time outs.
I could understand Edwards wanting to take on more responsibility as the next step in his coaching evolution, but I think our coaching situation is pretty optimal right now, so I think we'd want to keep things the same as much as possible.
Precious is again considering a diet for the New Year.

LOL, the point being the odds are the same of either happening. The thought is there but its no way it does down, although its now an annual thing.
So, if Edwards leaves, does Jerry Gray take over as DC? Hmmmm...

Its the reason that Paul Guenther didn't leave Cincy to take the D coordinator gig when Z got the Minnesota job: didn't want to operate in that shadow.
Next Monday will be telling...if there are truly 13 HC slots available, both coordinators will get extended looks...
I think the comment by Zimmer works in favor of us keeping Edwards. It reminds every other team that Zimm is the play caller and then it gives Edwards the carrot to stay for next year with more responsibility on the #1 Defensive unit.
George Edwards is our coordinator? I thought Zimmer did it.
He ain't getting a HC job.
Zimmer is just giving him a carrot.
Pat is gone. And that will suck.
After we win the Superbowl, Zimmer can delegate whatever he wants.

Or are you thinking the other teams learned from the Wilf's mistake?@"BarrNone55" said: So, if Edwards leaves, does Jerry Gray take over as DC? Hmmmm... if y’all remember the dallas game last year, Edwards called a damn fine game. i think he is HC material from a technical knowledge standpoint, i dont know much about his leadership skills
