AP reveals why he signed with Saints...
He was back home in Houston after a free-agent visit to New Orleans. He was praying for a sign. Saints? Patriots? Seahawks? Another team? Then one day he was looking for a duffel bag in his home office. Things were out of place because the house was being cleaned, and he couldn't find the bag. So instead he grabbed a black leather bag he'd had for years. It had a piece of tape on it. Peterson had forgotten why it was there. He tore off the tape.As the piece rolls on, it becomes clearer and clearer that head coach Sean Payton was the driving force in what brought one of the most dangerous offensive weapons in NFL history to the Saints.
And there was his sign.

"I loved his honesty," Peterson said. "He was straightforward. I could sense he really wanted me to be a part of the organization. All coaches want to win, but you can see it more with him. He's very passionate about what he does. About 98 percent of the time, he was doing the talking."
Peterson is also going to have the chance to play with arguably the best quarterback he has been around in Drew Brees.
"I was attracted to playing with Brees, a guy who is good at distributing the ball to different players," he said. "I know in this system, I'll get some opportunities to catch the ball in space. Drew Brees, he'll get the ball to me."

Hurry-up Vikings, we ain't getting any younger!
I agree Sean Peyton, and Drew Brees are attractive. Would have loved DB, and if it Peyton comes available while we're in need of a HC, I hope he chooses us.
Peterson looking for a sign, huh? The only sign AP saw was that New Orleans was the only team that offered him an actual contract...that's the sign Adrian.

Plus AD likes that Bree's distributes the ball and he can get in space....never been AD's game. We tailored our offense around a one dimensional back for too long and he could not transition away from being a 2 down feature back. Now he will be forced to, let's see how it goes? We had multiple coaching staffs who could not get him to improve his blocking and screen game or even desire to run out of the shotgun.
My hope is that Cook absolutely steals the show at MNF opener vs Saints...

Your absolutely right...but it will depend a lot on whose defense brings their "A" game. I suspect a thrashing on New Orleans opening day.

Monday night at home and a thrashing would be in order!!!

I find Peyton one of the most unpleasant people in the NFL, a cheater with a smarmy attitude. Yes, he has a pretty good record, but I will be very interested to see if that continues after Brees leaves.
Let me get this straight. Peterson redacted the Saints emblem after he lifted the bag from the Saints locker room during the NFC Conference game and now, all these years later, "it's a sign from Heaven".
@"purplefaithful" said: My hope is that Cook absolutely steals the show at MNF opener vs Saints...All it takes is a trip to the film room to see that Cook goes off on the biggest stages time and time again.

In fact, Peyton has only managed 5 winning seasons out of his 11 in New Orleans (all with Brees).@"Bolstad79" said: I agree Sean Peyton, and Drew Brees are attractive. I couldn't agree more.
(whispers) I'm not sold completely on Dalvin Cook......(ducks).....

ugh... you had to bring up AD in the screen game.... i just shudder at the thought. as easily as the other teams sniffed out the screens when he was on the field you would think that he was holding up a sign pre snap that read simply "its a screen play"
Ok cool for him I guess. Can't stand Payton. I am looking forward to the season opener.
Ap signed in New Orleans because no one else wanted him. He signed at a bargain rate, and as a potential role player. He was great here, but his Anti-Viking management stances, high salary, and limits playing time are the reasons he left Minnesota. Not even sure Spielman made him a qualifying offer.
The Saints drafted a RB in the 3rd round of the Draft this year....and have Mark Ingram. They aren't counting on Peterson as the bell cow back. I do think they'll ride him hard if he stays healthy and doesn't fumble for as long as that is.
I like Cook but I'm not sure how many touches he'll get in game 1. We're pretty conservative with our rookies, and I think it usually works out for the best that way.
Trying to recall: Didn't we offer him 5m a year to finish career out in Minnesota? (down from his 17m)
So.... he wanted to test his market value in free agency....no one wanted him for months.
THEN finally signed with the Saints for 3m.
I think he will do well from a change of scenery, as long as he's healthy I'm thinking he's going to continue to do well, new location/new motivation to prove the Vikings wrong. (in short term)
If he stayed with us, having taken a cut in pay, he wouldn't have the drive he has now IMO. Still with his injury issues, I can't help but think we are in a better place without him and WITH LM, Cook and McKinnon.
We need some reliability at and diversity of skills at RB. (block, catch, NOT fumble)
This could really be sweet (running game) Although not glamorous I LOVE a good running game...pound the rock and chew the clock.
Wish AD the best, but hope our Defense pins his ears back..
Is it wrong that I feel he will fumble in the season opener? The defense will have some fun tackling him because they can actually hit him.

Says Emerson Griffen...
I'd really prefer our defense didnt smack talk at all until they get a few wins under their belt.
