NFL broadcasts lose Viagra, Cialis as major advertisersPosted by Michael David Smith on July 10, 2017, 6:45 AM EDTGetty ImagesTV ad sales for NFL games have been flaccid this offseason, and erectile dysfunction drugs are part of the reason.
Advertising Age reports that the makers of both Viagra and Cialis have declined to buy any advertisements on NFL games for the coming season. That’s a massive change for two products that were once among the top advertisers on NFL games.
The reason is apparently less about the NFL’s ratings decline last season than about pharmaceutical patents: Both Viagra and Cialis will soon be available as generic drugs, and therefore their makers no longer feel the need to advertise the name brands.
That’s bad news for the NFL’s network partners: Last season, the makers of Viagra and Cialis spent more than $50 million airing commercials during NFL games.

Lol. I guess the league will have to limp along somehow. That is a huge chunk of advertising to make up for. Those commercials make me laugh. The demand must be high for them to create generics though.

It sounds like a lot, but the NFL generated about $13 billion in profit last year...$50 million is hardly a blip on the radar...

it's usually a cardiovascular problem, and it often is an indicator of major problems with people and it is likely those commercials probably saved a whole lot of lives. While it may be uncomfortable to watch with your kids (although we just explain it matter of factly) or you might find the topic funny, the reality is that if you are experiencing ED you likely have some other serious problems in your health. So if people get to the doctor to get the ED pills they likely will need to talk to their doctor about what is causing the problem, and the next thing you know some poor chap that had thought he just lost the lead in his pencil finds out that he was on a 5 year timeline to a dirt nap.

I am a diagnosed diabetic for 14 years now and at some point this could be a problem for me. I can tell you one thing I am not going to just sit on the sidelines!!!

Couldn't agree more! Suggestive Cougars waiting on the bed for the faceless hubby and explaining how the drug was more for her benefit than the benefit of his ego...

No I get that. But they will still want to make it up somewhere unless consumers are going to pay for it somehow. It's all about money.

Is this one of those tests where the dress really isn't "blue"...  should I keep staring at it until it changes color? BOOM

50 million isn't anything for the NFL. Those spots will be filled in a second and probably already filled before the announcement

Sure but I think the focus is that they had a long time partner for those spots. Can they be filled with something that will be as lucrative and as long lasting as these products were? Would you rather have MCDonalds paying to advertise with you or would you rather have mcflippy's burger palace that just opened with no track record as a company advertising with you?

Also the real news in the story isn't really that the NFL is losing these companies. THe real news is that these drugs are moving to a generic status. Consider that people pay around $50/pill for viagra WITH insurance!!!! Going to be a lot of happy old couples out there!

Hell, and I thought I liked little red dresses best...

Barr, when I finally opened this thread and connected it to the title, I laughed out loud. What a goomba.
