Spread the cheese, man! We all have our weaknesses. And the Carpenters is mine. I listen to everything from Miles Davis to Social Distortion, but I grew up listening to my big sister's Carpenters records. And I'm not ashamed to admit that I love those songs. I know Paul Williams wrote a lot of 'em, but Karen had a pure, effortless voice and some of those songs are just brilliant. Particularly Superstar and Goodbye to Love. The lyrics to Goodbye to Love are as deliciously dark as anything by Morrissey or Trent Reznor. And I didn't realize just how brilliant Superstar was until I heard Sonic Youth's take on it.
This is my favorite version of this song - Though Brenda Lee did a nice job!
And when I do want some Brenda Lee xmas music - this is it!

I would have to say though, when I was just a little boy with a little record player (kind that opened up / portable for little kids) I had this album and played it ALL THE TIME during Christmas! His voice, to me, was christmas for a little boy. The one, the only, The Original Gene Autry Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer Christmas album; Anyone else remember this record?
I love Alabama, have to say this is one of my very favorite Christmas songs :D
This has been my favorite Xmas song for the last few years....
Somewhere in my memory. The video here doesn't quite get it, but John Williams is a genius. From Raiders to Schindlers, the man is a genius at evoking emotion.
