Ex-Viking Captain Munnerlyn says he left ‘millions on table’ to join Panthers
Cornerback Captain Munnerlyn said Wednesday he turned down a deal worth millions of dollars more when he left the Vikings in free agency last spring to return to the Carolina Panthers.
Munnerlyn played three years with Minnesota after being with the Panthers from 2009-13. The Vikings and Panthers play Sunday in Charlotte, N.C.
“When you leave millions of dollars on the table, it’s definitely a tough decision,” Munnerlyn told Carolina reporters. “But at the same time, Charlotte was my home. This is a place that I wanted to be.’’
Munnerlyn wouldn’t say specifically how much Minnesota offered. He signed a four-year deal with the Panthers that could be worth as much as $21 million.
“To come back here was a no-brainer for me,’’ Munnerlyn said. “I still had my house here. This is the organization that drafted me, that gave me the opportunity to play the game I love.”

Hurry-up Vikings, we ain't getting any younger!
Munnerlyn was one of three Minnesota free agents to sign with Panthers in March. Also departing were tackle Matt Kalil and wide receiver Charles Johnson, who is on injured reserve.
The Vikings didn’t look to retain Johnson but wanted to keep Kalil, who signed a five-year, $55.5 million deal with Carolina.
“We tried to sign him back,’’ Vikings coach Mike Zimmer told Carolina reporters. “I like Matt. I thought he was a good player.’’

Sometimes you just get lucky.

Hopefully Zim said this while under the influence of anesthesia...
The Panthers fans dont seem very happy with him (Matt.) A few blame his brother for not giving them a heads up how injured he is. Others think it is a matter of self confidence. Sounds like familiar discussions here the last few years.
I do think Captain wanted to head back home....but I also think he thought the Vikings might be heading in a different direction than they are currently.
Captain brought veteran leadership to a secondary that really needed it. I was surprised when he departed, but youth and speed seem to be something Zimmer covets. Maybe he did see the writing...
Cam is thinking about the fact the Everson Griffen is going to lining up across from his LT and they are very familiar with each other.
I cannot wait to see EG pad his sack count. The only that could be better is if it was Brady or Rodgers behind Matt Kalil.
I wonder if Everson has ever heard of Derrick Thomas and wanted an opportunity to break his sack record....well Ev, it's likely now or never.
Randy Holloway's team record of 5 might be in danger...
How about the nfl team record of 12...might that be in danger? Wouldn't that be fun to see?
i liked you CAP but you lost your mind on the Wilson scramble and I won’t forgive you for that. That and MAC MAN is really starting to come into his own. #20 is going to be a playmaker
That's another guy who will blossom under Zim...he's more talented than Trae...he could be another star CB...
I know people are predicting a huge game and multiple sacks by EG, but I’m not sure it happens.
Anyone know how many sacks Kalil has given up in one game?
I see more false start penalties committed than sacks on Sunday. Specially if the Panthers are near either goal line.

You can bet they wont let that happen again. Max protect. Not overly impressed with the Vikings pass-rush without the blitz this year to be honest. But they're doing something right up front with the stats the D has posted as a whole.
Carolina would be crazy to allow Griffen to repeatedly beat Kalil and sack/pressure Newton. They are aware of the situation. They remember the 8 sacks from last year. They will give Kalil help if needed. Griffen needs to play his game and not get greedy for sacks. Let the other pass rushers take advantage of 1-on-1s to get to Newton.

For the life of me, I could never understand how the Vikings wouldn’t try and help Kalil out more when he was struggling. Or any other O lineman for that matter.
It was by definition, crazy!I hope the D line has a huge game. I hope they make Cam look like Eli Manning from last year’s game. Remember him just throwing the ball in the dirt instead of getting sacked or even hit?

I doubt we were offering much more than a 1 year deal.
