Everson Griffen appears to be on track to play Sunday, giving him the chance to extend his streak of games with a sack to an NFL-record nine straight.

Griffen, the Minnesota Vikings’ leader in sacks with 10 through eight games, returned to practice on Friday on at least a limited basis after sitting out the previous two days with a foot injury suffered late in the Week 8 win over the Cleveland Browns. He has had at least one sack in each of the first eight games this season, joining two other players in NFL history. If he gets one Sunday against the Washington Redskins, it would be an NFL record.

“We try to rush as a team, but we try to exploit matchups if we can, as well,” head coach Mike Zimmer said on Thursday. “But he’s been chipped a bunch and he just keeps battling.”

Zimmer said he expects Griffen to play, but that likely won’t be the case for right tackle Mike Remmers, who hasn’t practiced all week because of a concussion. Rashod Hill likely will start for Remmers. Backup offensive lineman Jeremiah Sirles missed another week of practice with a knee injury and isn’t expected to play, either.

The full injury report, with designations of out, doubtful and questionable, will be released Friday afternoon.

Damn, Remmers still out :(

Maybe its there more than I recall? I'd like to see em moving Griffen around more than they do.

I am betting that Griff will get his, but its going to take a little longer.  I expect TJ to have plenty of help with Griff,  but if we get up by a couple scores they wont be able to keep the protection in on passing plays and thats when Griff will start feeding.

This is why we need a Floyd like penetrating DT. on the inside with Joseph. Someone that demands double teams would create havoc inside as somone will always be single blocked.

please draft a pass rushing DT in the first round and take this DL to legendary levels

Plenty of DEs in 2018...best DT, Christian Wilkins, is going to be long gone by the time we draft...Tons of potential OTs where we are likely to pick...

Not sure why Jaleel Johnson isn't seeing some playing time?

he was inactive the first 4 weeks,  then active for the bears, packers, and ravens,  but then inactive in london.  he must just be a fringe guy in Zimmers eyes at the moment.

That's too bad, he's a talented guy. Must be figuring it out still and Z can't trust him. He's got the playmaking ability needed next to Joseph potentially.

This defense isn't simply beat the guy in front of you.  Our pass rush works because, in the words of Griff, everyone is doing their job.  They rush as a team.  So I can see Zimmer not giving reps to a rookie.  Heck, two vets couldn't even beat out old Tom Johnson.

Season to date, Johnson seems to have bounced back a bit from year-ago. I though he wore down quite a bit last season, hope that isn't the case again. But pleased with what he's been able to bring this year. And as Greed points out, nobody else on the squad has been able to beat him out at 3t starter.
