well that was unexpected but actually good timing.  throw him on the IR with return and we head to the playoffs 3 deep at footballs most important position

I suppose they had to wait to see if that treatment was going to work or not before the scope? Seems like a long time to have kept him on ice. What a shame too. Only luck this guy has had is in the wallet.

I wonder if they kept him viable to return until they knew Teddy was for sure coming back?  Could he have played with an injection if needed?

Probably held off on this till they could get a read on Teddy.   I wonder how impressed they are with Sloter, could make Sam odd man out with Case hanging around in 18.

I felt this way before, weeks ago, but pretty obvious now Bradford is going on IR.

Impressed enough to sign him to a 3 year contract.

To hit on some others thoughts, the QB situation going forward is murky. A choice will need to be made between Sam & Teddy and I wouldn't consider it a foregone conclusion Sam is out. Teddy needs to prove his value again before you can make any real predictions.

How crazy would it be if Sam literally plays Game 1, then is taken off the IR for the playoffs and actually sees the field in a playoff game?

Doesn’t this team feel like the mid to late 80’s Vikings teams?

Questions at QB (3 QBs, Gannon, Kramer, Wilson vs Case, Teddy, Sam)
No lead RB but a Running back tandem
Strong OL
Small but damn good WRs (Carter and Jones, Diggs and Thelein)
Dominating defense anchored by a monster DL

Could the 2017 Vikings go on a November-December run like the 1988 Vikings?
44-17 over Detroit
43-3 over Dallas
12-3 over Indy
23-0 over Detroit
45-3 over New Orleans
then oh no, a game, week 16 versus a terrible GB team in GB, a loss

Difference between having the number 1# seed and having to play the WC

Lets not make the same mistake again

Did anyone in this thread see Sticky's post about the procedure Sam had?  If so, then I'd think you'd have a different view about Sam's future in the NFL not only this season, but if he ever plays again.  He didn't have any "simple" scope from the way it's described here:
http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/sports/profootballdoc/sd-sp-pfd-bradford-surgery-vikings-1108-story.html
Surgery was reported as a "clean up."
The surgery consisted of removing "several loose particles", cleaning
up "some ragged cartilage" and smoothing out "a bone spur.”
This
was not a simple knee scope with meniscus trim. Expect post-operative
bleeding and swelling to occur. Whenever bone is resected, there are
exposed bleeding bone surfaces, and this delays the ultimate recovery.

A
perfect outcome would mean a minimum of 4-6 weeks recovery, which is
why Bradford will end up on IR when the Vikings need the roster space.
(His 2017 season is over. Sure, he could return after 8 weeks, but there
are only eight weeks remaining in the regular season. If the Vikings
are in the playoffs, it means they got at least decent play from Case Keenum and/or Teddy Bridgewater.)

Stem cell injections are spooky awesome, but will do nothing if 'particulates' and spurs are present.
It's likely Sam needed this clean-up months and months ago.
If he still has a meniscus, he could make a full recovery in time for the postseason.

hasnt it been reported that he is bone on bone already?  wouldnt that indicate an absence of a meniscus?

Very likely.  The team most likely asked him to get the procedure done now as well.  The timing is too perfect to be coincidental.

Almost makes you wonder what the first prognosis was when Sam went down to Florida.
If Sam had bone work done. I really wonder how ready he will be in 8 weeks.

No, Zimm said today it was not bone on bone...

Sounds worn but fixable to me.
A meniscus can partially collapse or tear.
Stem cells can often fix that up like new.
Doctors wait to see if crumbles and irregularities remain to cause issues, but they don't dig around looking for small stuff during procedure for many reasons.
Sam may be back during playoffs, IMHO.

Honestly, when you listen to Zimmer or Spielman talk about Bradford, they gush. IMO, they feel Bradford is the best QB on the roster. A shame he got injured.

After last year, I really thoughts Sam's knee problems were in the rear view mirror. What a shame. Now the Vikings have to find a way to gauge #5 and probably draft another QB next year after spending a #1 on Sam.

Its the Viking way...

I read somewhere that Sam was not bone on bone. "which was good" If they done micro-fracture work on his knee I highly doubt he will be back as bone takes a while to heal.

Zimmer said it wasn't bone on bone in his PC.
