They're Going To Need Fresh Sheets
On their way to draft immortality, the 2018 QB draft class continues to shit the bed...
Oregon State senior QB Luke Falk completed 17-of-34 passes for 197 yards and three touchdowns in a 28-0 demolishing of Colorado on Saturday.
Falk also ran for 41 yards, as the 6-foot-4, 223-pound quarterback had all day to throw and took off when necessary. While the three touchdowns are great, this was not a strong game from the senior QB. Anytime he had to make a throw that wasn't the first read, he struggled with accuracy, and Colorado dropped multiple interceptions. Still, even in a "bad" game, there were moments of brilliance for the potential first-round pick. Falk and the Cougs get Arizona next.
Meanwhile, in Norman and Stillwater:
Oklahoma senior QB Baker Mayfield completed 32-of-41 passes for 410 yards with a two touchdowns and interception, and ran for 69 yards and two scores in a thrilling 42-35 victory over Kansas State on Saturday.
This was a doozy of a football game. Mayfield and the Oklahoma offense struggled in the first-half, but were up to the task in the second against the Wildcats. He impressed with his legs, scoring from 16 and three yards out, respectfully. Even in a struggle in the first half, the 6-foot, 220-pound signal-caller showed his accuracy and ability to improvise. Expect another shootout for the Sooners and Mayfield next week against Texas Tech. Oct 21 - 8:13 PM
This was the first time all season that the Cowboys have scored fewer than 30 points. Rudolph has been among the most statistically brilliant quarterbacks in the country, having thrown at least three touchdown passes in five of six games entering action on Saturday. He figures to be able to rebound from this quiet showing when the Cowboys take on West Virginia next weekend. Oct 21 - 4:50 PM
Fans might not like it, but Mayfield is the best of this bunch. He doesn't have the stature that NFL GMs covet, but he's got a huge arm and feisty attitude. Leadership. He can be electric. But he's only 6'1". Playmaker. Mason Rudolph I like, also.
The rest of this group, which is being hyped as the best group in 15+ years, its very inconsistent.
I'm liking Mayfield a lot...he can buy time...He's slippery like Stafford or Rodgers...his off field stuff and size will hurt him...
You need to add Clayton Thorson to your list BN. He also had very average stats this week against Iowa but did get the win with an OT touchdown run.
I like Mayfield a lot. He makes up for stature with smarts. It's interesting to see what is happening to Darnold and Rosen. The talking heads are perplexed. That Oklahoma State/Texas game was a test for OSU. They had to rally.
If we're going to discount stature, McSorley from PSU should probably be put in the mix.
