Schefter: It's Wentz
Had to happen
Head Coach Kevin O’Connell announced that Carson Wentz will start Monday. QB Kyler Murray (hamstring) is considered week-to-week.

He will throw probably two ints, get sacked a few times, but i fully expect the offense to look competent this game and wrs to get the ball.
Will it work? Who knows! But it wasn't working with Murray and the receivers looked done with him. At least in the short-term.
Making the move now prevents the Vikings from having to do it at halftime if Kyler and the offense looked bad again.
When I refreshed the page, I saw pattersaur had already started a thread on this, so I merged mine into his. No need for two threads of the same thing.

Interesting since the Vikings listed no one including Murray on the Wednesday injury / dnp list.
Monday night game changes the practice report timelines by a day I believe.

They didn't practice yesterday.

"One thing I'll say about Wentz - he stays locked in. I always notice during the games that he is constantly moving, throwing, & engaging with teammates + the coaching staff."
He's a true pro. O'Connell praised Wentz's "level of mastery" within the offense & is excited for his opportunity.

The #Vikings are planning to start Carson Wentz on MNF against the #Bills, as Kyler Murray’s hamstring injury would limit his mobility. Murray also could make it worse by playing.
When healthy, Wentz has thrived in Kevin O’Connell’s offense. Now, a shot at 1 of the NFL’s best.

I wouldn't say Wentz has thrived in this offense. He’s had a couple good games and a bunch of mediocre ones. Like we shouldn’t hate Kyler so much that we have revisionist history for Wentz.
He’s averaging 138 yards passing in his 2 games this season. Over these past two seasons that’s 4 games in the 100-200 yd range, 1 game in the 200-300 yd range, and 2 games 300+ yd range.
What I do think he’ll do is throw the ball downfield if the his first read is open and use most of the field. He’s definitely more in the mold of what KOC wants out of his QB, even though he has his own limitations.
His "level of mastery" garnered him the backup QB status.
The game is on Monday and it is Thursday. Let's call a sore hamstring and already rule him out for the week lol. That is what we call a benching. Probably should have put in more work, Buddy. Looks like Jefferson and Addison nailed it with their comments. Oh, and none were directed at play calling or the coach.
Vikings HC Kevin O'Connell: "I think we'll get really good quarterback play. My expectation is that Carson (Wentz) is going to play really well. Because we've called on him multiple times, and he's stepped in. We've had production when that's happened."

KOC Speak 101
"Sore ________________" Translation: "Soft Benching"

That quote makes me feel it's a benching. "I think we'll get really good QB play. We had production when that's happened"
KOC has balls. If Kyler was playing any sorts of good football he plays Monday night.

And gives Wentz the week's work with the starting offense.
