Well, that was surprising. The GM was also let go.
As a reminder, the Falcons interviewed the following (who later became head coaches) before opting for Raheem Morris:

  • Macdonald (Seattle)
  • Vrabel (Patriots)
  • Harbaugh (Chargers)
  • Ben Johnson (Bears)

The GM (Fontenot) really whiffed. Add that to drafting a 24 year old Penix with an injury history after signing Cousins in a huge deal was pretty crazy.

Question for the football minds: If BFlo moves on is Raheem Morris an option?

I'm guessing that Miami was the mystery 7th team that reached out to the Harbaugh camp.

It’d be lowkey funny if the Dolphins fired Mike for Harbaugh, and then Harbaugh ended up going elsewhere.

So, if Philly is 1 and done, do they go after Harbaugh? Perhaps they are the team that checked in…!

And herein lies the problem for the Vikes.  I have to believe that Jones has been the teams fallback for losing Flores.

Why isn't Chuck Foreman in the Hall of Fame?

He sure was mine. The biggest problem here is that the Flores thing might take some time. Even if Jones might prefer the Vikings job if Flores leaves, he may not want to wait that long and be left out in the cold if Flores ultimately decides to stay in Minnesota. It's not hard to see a scenario where we lose both of these guys.

File this under sad but true. Fingers crossed this isn't how it shakes out.

I don't know the ins and outs of job titles but is there a way we can fluff up BFlo's job title somehow and then name Moore DC? If there is, I hope the team at least pitches it. I gotta think they would. Obvious best case is that both guys are back.

I think the worst case scenario is losing both of them. Lose Jones first, and then Flores takes the Ravens job. Obviously, if Flores stays here, Jones will have to leave to get a DC position at some point. I’m not sure how you mitigate that … probably just ask him to wait a week and offer him the DC position if Flores bounces.

Lol...Its come down to lip reading

========================================================

New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart got the football world buzzing on Thursday night due to the theory that he may have inadvertently provided some insight into the Giants' head coaching search.

While on the sidelines during the College Football Playoff semifinal between his alma mater, Ole Miss, and Miami, cameras captured Dart having a conversation with an Ole Miss staffer (beginning at the 18-second mark):

Per Erich Richter of the New York Post, internet lip readers and sleuths slowed down the video and came up with the hypothesis that Dart was asked about the Giants' next head coach before responding, "I don't know— Harbaugh or Stefanski—but I don't know."

Per Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the Giants are scheduled to interview Harbaugh next week, and they have "kept in close contact" with Harbaugh's representation thus far.

The Giants have already interviewed Stefanski for their head coaching vacancy, and a team source told Paul Schwartz of the New York Post that it "went very well."

After a 2-8 start this season, the Giants fired Brian Daboll, ending his tenure as the team's head coach in the midst of his fourth year on the job.

The Giants didn't fare much better under interim head coach Mike Kafka, finishing 4-13 overall, but there is reason to believe that the Giants could be the most attractive job available aside from the Baltimore Ravens.

Dart is among the biggest reasons why, as he showed immense potential during his rookie campaign, completing 63.7 percent of his passes for 2,272 yards, 15 touchdowns and five interceptions, while also rushing for 487 yards and nine scores.

On top of that, the Giants boast young, potential franchise players at wide receiver and running back, respectively, in Malik Nabers and Cam Skattebo.

New York also has a talented defense headlined by 2025 No. 3 overall pick Abdul Carter, Pro Bowl pass-rusher Brian Burns and defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence.

All of those factors suggest the Giants may have their pick of the litter when it comes to their next head coach, and it won't be a shock if it does indeed come down to Harbaugh and Stefanski.

There's also the possibility that Moore just goes wherever Flores goes and becomes his DC, if he thinks that roster is more attractive. There's a few different ways this can go pear shaped on us.

is Moore under contract with us past this season though?  Is that one of those things where you cant prevent them interviewing for a promotion,  but you can keep them from a lateral move?

Interesting, there isnt much out there in the public regarding his contract status with the Vikings:

Daronte Jones, the Minnesota Vikings' Defensive Passing Game Coordinator/DB Coach, doesn't have a publicly detailed current NFL contract in the snippets, but he previously signed a two-year deal with LSU in 2021 for about $1.3 million annually.

He's now coaching for the Vikings (since early 2024), and his contract details aren't readily available in the search results, though recent news mentions him as a potential fallback for the Vikings DC job if Brian Flores leaves for a head coaching role

I think they've explicitly said that an OC or DC is a promotion from something like a Passing Game Coordinator, which is considered on the level of a position coach, and they don't need permission to interview for those roles.

Which Moore are you talking about?

I meant Jones,  had just read tom Moore retired and likely had that on my mind.

I should have been more clear too. I meant that if Flores takes a head coaching job somewhere else, he'll need to hire a DC of his own. Moore is probably high on his list of candidates. To my knowledge in this scenario the Vikings couldn't block either departure since both guys would be moving up in 'rank'.

So question for you all regarding Dorante Jones.

Is Jones someone you would want as our DC?  If he was the Secondarys Coach, is he really someone we see as an up-and-comer and/or someone who would be able to coach up a strong defense as a DC?  While our passing game may have been a little better than our running game, did we really see Jones coaching up guys like Rodgers, Murphy, Okudah, Mattelus, etc?

IMO, the best fit goes to:

Ravens - B Flo as HC, Mike McDaniel as OC

Get McDaniel in with Jackson and Henry and Flowers and it just might be a nasty combo.  Get Flo in with that Baltimore defense and he turns them around immediately for the better.  IMO, if I were in charge in Baltimore, that would have been done already.  I would have brought both of them in and told them exactly what I expected and hire them accordingly.

Seems to be some buzz suggesting that if the Vikings don't have Flores under contract if/when he takes a HC job, we won't get the comp picks? Can that be true?

It would fit with the brand personna....Dont know all the details, but that would surely reflect poorly on mgmnt and ownership if that were about to happen.
