Lewis Cine Gump
"We keep hearing that Lewis Cine can't pick up the playbook. They ask these guys to do a lot. There's a lot of double calls in Flores' system and if you can't process the double calls, then guess what? You're going to be in his doghouse."

It's hard to say for sure because they keep these things pretty quiet, but the Vikings have had a handful of players recently who really should have been better than they were. It does make you wonder if they might not just be idiots. Recently I've wondered that about Cine, Booth, Wyatt Davis and DeWayne McBride.

My question is do they not interview these guys before drafting them? Talk to their college coaches?
I feel like some fans blame players for not learning the playbook but to me that falls just as much if not moreso on the scouting department and GM of the team. To me that should be one of the easier traits to evaluate.
I figured this wAs the case.
8 Wonderlics...
Look, these guys either have a lot of air between the ears, bad attitudes or both.
This is something that should be easily vetted in the pre-draft process.

Bingo. Any fan who reads reports like this is fair in saying, “Study harder!” to the player(s), so long as they’re saying the exact same thing to the FO. It’s a two way street.
A lot of very dumb people are very successful football
players.

It's not a perfect science, that's for sure. The NFL has gone from general intelligence tests like the Wonderlic to the S2, which measures the ability of players to make split-second decisions. And now that, after just one year, is being questioned due to the fact that Bryce Young scored very high on it and CJ Stroud scored very low.
I think a lot of things go into it besides general intelligence. Work ethic and study habits, for example, can make even a bright person perform like an idiot.
And here I thought this was why he was constantly in the doghouse. I'm tired of the Lewis Cine stuff. I'm wondering if he might actually be on the bubble to make the roster this year?

I don’t know why you would try to put those words into my
mouth. That feels like a dramatic leap
that you didn’t need to take.I’m simply replying to the question of “Why doesn’t the vetting
process rule out dumb people” and the answer is simply that “A lot of dumb people
become very successful football players.”
The vast majority of players have a slew of risk factors as to why they
are going to fail in the NFL. Dumbness
is just another one of those risk factors.
They also have a ton of attributes that are reasons why they should be drafted. Cine is very athletically gifted. Sometimes you take the risk that the pros
will manifest and the cons will be overcome.

He's on his rookie contract which is guaranteed. If we release him there's a cap hit to absorb which means more dead dollars.

I mean it's a minimal rookie contract, but I'm sure they'd like to give him one more year to get a return on investment, but otherwise he probably would be on the bubble. Flores isn't going anywhere
Kwesi fumbled that draft, but especially round 1. I’ve said it a million times, if you don’t have a guy at your pick in round 1, especially the 12th pick in the draft, then you did a craptastic job. There’s no possible way there isn’t a great player available. To ever trade down at all, let alone all the way to 32, just tells me you aren’t up to the job if it doesn’t come with a massive haul.
If the Vikings take the top choices at th time, we have Safety Kyle Hamilton, DT Jordan Davis, or Trent McDuffie on the roster.
This is how organizations don’t get better. They get cute in the draft and f it up. He at least seemed to learn his lesson year two and took the best player.
I think there is a big difference between football smart and intellect, it doesn't seem like there is a lot to evaluate in interviews to see if a kid has a football mind, you can easily ask him to dissect some plays. It was just an awful draft that really set us back, I don't blame Kwesi, but the Wilfs for hiring a guy with absolutely no experience to do the most important job within the franchise.

Simply a case of an unqualified egghead analytics major trying to implement his "I'm smarter than everyone" strategy in his first draft and shitting the bed horribly. Not getting contributions from most of that draft continues to hinder this roster. Not something everybody doesn't already know at this point
Mama always said drafting a safety in round 1 was like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get.
He was a perfect fit for the Donnatel defense where his assignment was to line up 30 yards off the line of scrimmage and just stand there!
Seriously, the injury was unfortunate, but the few times he made it on the field as safety he was out of position often. It is said he is a great guy with a great attitude. Let's hope he learns the playbook and shows some potential this coming preseason. He will get some opportunities in preseason and perhaps on special teams during the regular season. He will need to make some plays.

Just bite the bullet & cut his ass…!!!
I have to imagine that he’s watching his NFL career slipping
through his fingers, and hopefully he’s in communication with Flores and doing
whatever he needs to do in the offseason to give himself the best chance to get back to where he needs to be.

Nobody here wanted Hamilton or McDuffie. Jordan Davis is no star, but he has been flashy at times and would have been a solid pick there. If either Cine or Asamoah panned out, it would be a productive trade. Right now its not a good trade, well see if it stays that way.
