Thats a big deal with big shoes to fill.

Sweetheart of a spot, checking most coaching metric boxes.

 I wonder two things:
Was he hearing whispers calling for him to go?
This new era of college ball may just not have appealed to him

The rest of college football made it legal to do what Alabama and the SEC had been doing for the last 17 yrs. Saban decided he doesn't like a level playing field.

His competitive advantage is gone.

I'd hate to be the guy trying to fill those shoes. Talk about a no win situation.

Something like 9 Tide players entered the transfer portal after losing to Michigan.  Maybe the word was already leaking to the team then.

Also today, after Saban's announcement, a 5-star WR recruit (#9 overall according to ESPN) decommitted from Bama.

Phenomenal coach and run. He was far, far from washed. They almost made the natty two weeks ago! He's not retiring because he's afraid of rule changes or whatever. My guess is he's retiring because he's accomplished everything he wanted to beyond his wildest dreams already, and is just getting older. Good for him.

NIL changed the landscape and a lot of older coaches don't want the headaches.

Alabama should go after PJ Fleck  =) ;) :p B)

Never been a Saban fan. He's helluva coach but he just irritates the hell out of me.

Washington coach Kalen Deboer negotiating a contract to become the next coach at Alabama. Good luck filling those shoes

DeBoer has been a winner at every stage...he had the best credentials of any other coach and he's only 49.
Wasn't it ironic that he got the job and Dan Lanning at Oregon (who notably stayed in Eugene) was widely promoted as being the most likely choice?

Having said that, did any of you notice how much less "pep in his step" that Saban had this year?  He just looked tired.

Wondering what "Roll Tide Willie" is going to think about this? If you don't know who this is, check out his social media. Hilarious

South Dakota’s own Karen DeBoer is the new coach! Big congrats to him.

Not sure a guy with 3 yrs of FBS HC experience has the best credentials, but we'll see. A northern guy who's never lived/coached south of the Mason-Dixon line jumping from Washington to Alabama...His honeymoon period will be...well...

Thats a tough backfill for any coach, especially after another pretty good season for the Tide.

Expectations will be high and I ain't convinced Bama got this right.

Interesting how Alabama and Patriots both acted so fast. Does that mean they got their shit together more than many?

Will be fun to see...

Hard to know with any college HC hire until the guy actually does it. Both Alabama and New England had plenty of time to think of this contingency so not surprised they acted fast.

Following Nick Saban in the most pressure cooker place in college football...piece of cake!
