Again. Looks like it will be back to Papa Bill for ol' Joshy boy. The Raiders are the most dysfunctional organization in football. They still owe McDaniels 4 guaranteed years on his contract

Yep, nothing new....been going on forever.

I would agree its hardly a new tactic,   but like supa was questioning,   why/when did it become something prideful?

Everything has become 'prideful' today with social media. Everything and anything. And amazing! Heroic! The absolute best and the fucking worst. More 'heroes' and 'villains' than ever in history.

Just more shitbags, grifters and narcissists having a platform to 'like' stupid stuff which emboldens and 'validates' them. Its social media....these people always existed.

I was just going to post almost the same thing.  Ever since "reality" TV like Bachelor/Bachelorette getting laid by 20 different men/women and then choosing one and combining that with social media our norms are gone.  Almost every contestant is really a model wannabe or wants to be discovered.  We have raised a generation of narcissists (look at me) adult children.  As a parent during the evolution of those two things I am happy to say that neither my adult son or daughter ever watch those reality shows, and neither is on Facebook.  Not saying we haven't made other mistakes :)

The reason I bring up parenting because a lot of this crap from this generation is on us (yikes, accountability)

It is a weird version of the sin of pride, being a perpetual victim or trending in a viral video is now the highest accomplishment for many.

Same goes for rich guys going after women based on looks. Nothing new, still bashing the women for it too. It takes two. The guys are part of the equation and making decisions too but I guess it doesn't matter what he does

You are correct, but the question was when did the "sugar daddy" culture become en vogue? It's become a "no big deal" kind of thing now and you have more women looking to be "spoiled" or start careers on Onlyfans than get actual job skills to have a career. Feminists in this country must be losing their shit over the new generation

There are so many different kinds of feminists. The sugar daddy thing is not new. There have always been rich guys looking for a trophy to maintain. The guys are making the decision too. I am not saying it's right or wrong, I am calling out the hypocrisy. No one says anything about the guy with the 20 something, he gets kudos and high fives

You are correct in that's its not a new thing, but it just seems to be much more prevalent and socially accepted now as opposed to..say 20 years ago. I would venture to say, just like with most things, the advent of the internet and social media had a major hand in the shift. Remember when Anna Nicole married the old millionaire in the 90's and how taken aback everyone was by it? Nobody would even bat an eye at it now and most women would cheer on that kind of thing. Just a strange shift in culture on the feminist front

Anna was the first thing that came to mind when this thread went this way, aside from Zsa Zsa,( remember her from hollywood squares talking about it when i was a kid)   Anna was the first that I could remember that unashamedly married an old dude for the money,  it seems that the rest is mostly era people.

as far as it always being a woman,  hell no,  there are plenty of guys that will sell themselves for a pay out,  you just dont see that promoted as much IMO.

Gotta disagree,  Van Haggar was some of the best music to come out of the 80s/90s.  Eddie was always great, but IMO became a true artist once he started working with Sammy.  I like most all kinds of music,  but I think the more refined sound of Van Haggar ( vs Van Halen/Dave ) will always be up there on my play list.

Sammy's voice was so much better than Roth's its a joke. I like both versions of Van Halen, but there's zero doubt Sammy was the better singer.

I still prefer the more rocking sound with Roth as opposed to the more coffee bar sound of Van Haggar. Panama, Eruption, Jump...yeah Dave for the win

I agree on the voice,  but I think Eddies range on the guitar got better as well.  however I wonder how many of those greats are able to do about anything with a guitar,  I was listening to a pod cast with Ted  Nugent and he had a guitar in the studio with him and he would just crank out about anything from any generation when he was talking about sounds and influences ,credits Chuck Barry, Bo Diddley, iirc for his start,  but anything that got brought up he would just rip it out on whatever he had in the studio with him.  I would be all the great ones have that range,  they just dont necessarily record it for public consumption.

Back in the 1960s Andy Warhol famously quipped that "In the future, everyone will be famous for 15 minutes".

I think we've arrived at that future now.

Yep. Everyone is the star of their own movie today whether its Facebook, LinkedIn, Tik Tok, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, etc. The absolute and complete narcissism of many kids under the age of 30 is MIND BLOWING. But all age groups really, but mostly the 30 and under crowd. Its making garbage humans.

Definitely limited to the kids. Zero parallels to mindless Trump rallies, cable news hot takes, Skip Bayless-esque sports commentary, etc. Boomers are the problem.
