JJ Watt thinks Hunter deserves more credit
He's good but he doesn't deserve top Edge money like Nick Bosa....was the prevailing wisdom just a few months ago.
Danielle Hunter deserves more credit than he gets.

Averaging 10 sacks a year since he came into the league. A consistent, solid player who is having a hell of a year. pic.twitter.com/HlHz7Kq8L5
fine offer him top 5-10 money ( commensurate with his production in the past ) but with escalators that would pay him top money if he continues to perform as he has this year. To often we end up paying on contract year effort, and then never see that level of performance again from the player. He has shown what he is capable of, make it so his pay commensurate, but make him earn it.
I'd rather have Nick Bosa, I don't think Hunter is that kind of player. But he's good for sure. I love having Hunter on the team, but man that is going to be big money. Lots of decisions coming up.

He's the best DE drafted by the Vikes since Doleman. I remember being so pissed at Denny when he traded Doleman. I hope the Vikes can find some way to keep Hunter. I guess that means I'm totally Ok with the dreaded "competitive rebuild" methodology. Teams win with good players, and Denielle is thriving under this Flores defense.

I think those two injury years really put a damper on his image. Dude is a physical freak, I was afraid his body was breaking down from over training, but so far so good this year and last.
Is Bosa better than Hunter? Remember Bosa was 1-40 against Darrisaw last weekend.
Anybody still NOT feel losing Hunter to injury his last two seasons in Minnesota had a major impact on Zimmers defense? You lose the straw that stirs the drink and you are going to have major problems like Zim did. Hunter showing once again just how impactful of a player he is

@"greediron" said:Yeah, I think it's pretty clear that Zimmer didn't have the roster to field a functional defense in 2020 and 2021. The 2020 year was especially brutal. I think Ngakoue is probably our only starting caliber DL that year and we got 6 games out of him and he doesn't play the run.@"supafreak84" said: Anybody still NOT feel losing Hunter to injury his last two seasons in Minnesota had a major impact on Zimmers defense? Zimmer co-coordinator situation where they both were partially position coaches and first time DC's. I'd be curious as to what the story was there. It feels awfully cheap to not field a fully fledged coaching staff those years. Did he choose that weird nepotism without replacement route because he knew it was over or was he prevented from bringing in a top tier DC and/or position coaches?
He is doing phenomenal and it's great to see after the injury. Keep it up

Or that nobody wanted to be the figurehead DC in name only guy for that squad of guys.

Lots of decisions coming up.Really tough decisions too. Right now Hunter is playing at a level that should see him get paid up with the Bosas, Watts and Garretts.
With JJ and Darrisaw contracts coming soon and Cousins likely being extended, it's hard to see the Vikings doing that. But they're not going to trade him either. That would send a really ugly message to a team that just pulled back into playoff contention.
Packer game might have something to say about this, but I think the most likely thing is the Vikings do nothing. Just let it play out.
