I totally see us moving Danielle… it bums me out a bit, but it makes sense for the team and for him I’m sure

Reads to me like the Vikings are trying to drum up interest where there is little.

Hunter maybe we could get something but the market for KJ is what? Maybe a 7th rounder? He’s a free agent in a few months and WRs usually take time to learn new offenses.

Jacksonville wins today and Minnesota loses, I'm going to bet Hunter moves to the Jags in a trade sooner than later.

Jags have been after Hunter for over a year. Still, it's unlikely anything happens until after the GB game. I'd say a 2-6 record and a discouraging prognosis for JJ is what would pull the trigger on that one.

Without a extension, he’ll maybe go for a second?

I was thinking that if we lose today it may be a good idea to be sellers, but then I remembered who would be making the trades and thought that we are just better off keeping our players, letting them walk when their contracts are up and getting comp picks which would be much better value than our GM would ever get.

Those comp picks are essentially 5th rounders by the time you figure end of the 3rd and then being a year later.  Anything better than a 5th this year is a bonus,   and thats based on the player getting a big contract and we aren't free agent players ourselves offsetting that comp pick so better just trading than hoping for a couple comp picks.

And for all the pub given to Micah Parsons and Nick Bosa, Danielle Hunter is lapping both of them this year with 8 sacks and 11 TFL's.

Again, I do think give a shit what the analytics say, if Mensah's moves him for anything other than AT LEAST a 1st round pick....his ass should be ran out of town immediately.

i dont think anybody "WANTS" to give up good players,  but.... can you afford him?  he is already on the books for 7.5 million for the next 2 years,  how much more is he going to want on top of that money to stay,  how many years do you give a 29 year old ( 30 next year )  and how many years down the road do you have to spread that damage out for a guy that is built for a win now team,  when we are realistically a win in 25 or later team?  However if you can turn him into a guy that will be hitting his prime in a couple years,  still on a rookie deal that can drastically improve a position of need,  or a younger cheaper version of himself ( yes likely a knock off, but nonetheless ).... you have to listen,  logic says to move him if the compensation is right.

lets be honest, the wilfs dont have to sell tickets yet, no point in trying to make a silk purse out of a sows ear,  lets get the cap healthy,  get some quality youth at key positions,  and be ready to rock again in a couple years before JJ is on the back side.  He is still young, but the hits he has already taken as a pro are adding up.  everyone assumes that the reason he hasnt signed a new deal is due to him not liking uncertainty at the QB spot and we need to keep Cousins to make JJ happy,  but what if he is looking at the roster and wanting to see some kind of sign that management recognizes and fixes the current issues so they arent a detriment for the team during his new deal ( like OL, DL, LB and most importantly QB )

I don't either, I like keeping good players. But the win against the Bears showed me more than probably any other game this is not a good team. Its a shame because the D is better than last year. And for once I'm going to hang a little blame on Cousins.

I don't know if they can get a 1st round pick for Hunter, but if they can they should pull the trigger.

I don't want to trade him either. But Kwesi has to be realistic about the team's chances in '23 in order to field the best team possible in '24 and beyond.

If it's just about record, I'd say 4-4 and you keep him, 3-5 is borderline, 2-6 and he's gone. However, it's not just about W/L, it's about how we're playing. Oddly enough, I'd say you keep him on the team who played Philly and KC, and trade him from the team who played the Panthers and the Bears.

Also, JJ's injury impacts this decision greatly.

I'll tell you who needs a trade: Kirk.   If he keeps looking like crap for 6 weeks while JJ is on the bench, all the hero-buzz and Netflix hype from the past year and more importantly, his ability to get a huge contract next spring, might go straight into the toilet.  He ought to get his agent to make nice with the front office and beg to get dealt.   Find a team that will re-up him now before the damage is complete.

It's funny that KJO is the one folks are surprised about. He actually has trade value. The one on this list who doesn't is Harrison Smith.

I think it’s hard to imagine that KJO, Cleveland, Davenport
are here in 2024.  They seem like the
most obvious trade candidates to me.
Also, when are they expecting to be competitive for a SB?  In the offseason, I kind of imagined they
were targeting 2024 to start building hard, with 2025 probably being the start
of our window.  Hunter is exactly the
kind of guy you want to build around on defense, but with his age, will he be
the Hunter we know, when we’re trying to be competitive?  I’m not sure you want to pay 2 years of prime
Hunter money when we’re not competitive only to have to cut him and endure a
big cap penalty when he’s older, fallen off a bit, and not worth it during our
competitive window.  I think he’ll age gracefully
from an elite guy to a good guy, but you can’t pay a merely good edge QB money.

Hunter also has over $15 Million in Dead Cap next year along with Cousin's $28.5 Million. Kwesi the Clown was stupid to extend Hockenson and give up our leverage we had to tag him in the offseason if we wanted to keep him for another year. With the money we have invested in Oliver, and affordable depth in Mundt and Muse, making TJ the highest paid TE when you have other higher priority extensions looming with JJ and Darrisaw made little to no sense. Detroit made out like a Rock Star with that trade knowing last year's draft was one of the deepest at TE ever. LaPorta is looking pretty damn good for the Lions. If the Vikings can't find a way to extend Hunter, which I don't think they will, they have to move him before the trade deadline. Hopefully Kwesi can actually get fair compensation in a trade for him but I have my doubts until proven otherwise.

If they can sign Hunter, obviously that would be ideal but we'll see what happens. He is definitely having a really good season so far though

Hunter 25 to 30 million
JJ 30 million
Cousins 40 million
Darrisaw 20+

Not to mention the dead millions already on the cap from can kicking with KC and Hunter,  and the fact that we still have gaping holes on both lines and are need large talent infusions at almost every position either as starters or better quality backup spots in order to field a truly competitive team.

How much that cap going up again?
