But I don't agree that it sends a mixed message to a non-competitive team. It's far too early to suggest this team will not be competing for the playoffs. Hell, if you take the 7 turnovers away, which I think is an NFL record, this team is very likely 2-0. Now I know you can say that about every game or group of games, but it also happens to be true. As I said a couple days ago, this may change after week 8, but for now anyway, we're buyers, not sellers.

I'm not frustrated. The Vikings traded health for rust by not playing starters in the pre-season.

It is kinda like all the retribution for last years 1 score wins rolled into 1 game.

Nice highlight video of Risner that I don't think you would be able to put together for Ingram and even Cleveland.  Like the energy Risner seems to bring and is usually the first one to run up to a tackled RB to help pick up.  His weakness is run blocking but see some real good second level.  The key is going to be to cut down on all those hits coming from Ingrams Guard position which were over 70 last year.  Kirk is one of the most hit QB's in the NFL and hopefully Risner can cut that back a decent amount and Kirk can stay healthy.

I'd like to see Cleveland take over Ingram's spot and Risner moved into Cleveland's.  Also, I wish Chris Reed was back and moved to center over Bradsbury.

It seems like only a matter of time before Risner replaces either left guard Ezra Cleveland or right guard Ed Ingram

In the end, Risner was able to strike a deal with
the Vikings this week, bringing 62 games of NFL experience to a team
that desperately needs help on the offensive line. He visited the
Vikings about six weeks ago and met different members of the front
office including, general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, as well as head
coach Kevin O’Connell.

That made his decision pretty easy for Risner when they finally called back.

“It’s an honor to be here, man,” Risner said. “I’m happy to bring what I bring to the table.”

In
the meantime, Risner is more concerned with learning the playbook,
knowing if he does that, everything else will take care of itself.

“I
think my role now is to come in and be a Minnesota Viking and help this
team win games, however that looks,” Risner said. “You know what I
mean? That’s kind of how I’m approaching it. I want to earn the respect
of these players and this team.”

For now, Risner might
simply be helping the Vikings prepare for their Week 3 matchup with the
Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday afternoon at U.S. Bank Stadium.

“Just did a walkthrough,” he said. “I don’t know what I’m doing yet.”

There’s
going to be a learning curve for Risner both on and off the field this
week. Everything is new to him at TCO Performance Center. He joked on
Wednesday afternoon that he didn’t even know how to get to the lunch
room.

“I still have no idea how to get around here,” he said with a laugh. “I’ve gotten lost two or three times.”

Asked
why it took so long to sign, Risner pointed to a number of factors,
emphasizing that while he had 16 teams inquire about his services, he
had a certain value in mind for himself. He wasn’t going to sell himself
short even if that meant waiting at home for the right deal.

As happy as he is to be putting the pads back on, Risner said the past few months have placed a chip on his shoulder.

“I
feel like I’m a really good guard in the NFL, so I have a lot to
prove,” he said. “Because me being available when I was shows the exact
opposite, and that pisses me off.”

“Could I play on Sunday?” Risner said. “C’mon, man. I’m from Wiggins, Colorado, brother. I’ll do anything.”

In the same breath, Risner showed his personality, cracking a joke that made everybody around him laugh.

“Now, would I know which direction to go at this point?” he said. “I’m not going to lie. Probably not.”

Dalton Risner made some waves on social media a couple of weeks ago.

Maybe
the NFL’s most coveted free agent on the market at the time, Risner
posted a picture from the airport, sending multiple fan bases into a
frenzy as they theorized where Risner might be headed.

The funny thing is Risner was simply heading back to his house after touching down at Denver International Airport.

“I’m like, ‘I’m going to try and make something up, man,’ ”
Risner said with a laugh. “One of these GMs has to have a Twitter,
right?”

In the end, Risner was able to strike a deal with
the Vikings this week, bringing 62 games of NFL experience to a team
that desperately needs help on the offensive line. He visited the
Vikings about six weeks ago and met different members of the front
office including, general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, as well as head
coach Kevin O’Connell.
