I've never seen a fanbase flip out so much over nothing. Whether it was Rick or Kwesi doesn't matter. Like every GM in the NFL, some of their moves are going to work out and some are not. Most don't.
Criticize the coaching hires, the trade down, the Cine pick, the TJH trade, the Addison pick. These are top-level moves that will determine the quality of the team. But for fuck sake, we have people seriously bitching about bottom-roster tweaking.
I swear some of these people need to get laid.

I mean, I got laid last night and I still think giving up a package of picks for those turds was a bad move. Analytics must have said otherwise...

Actually first blood went to MB, the "your mom" was just a weak defensive parry.

Rick gave up too much for Bradford who ended up being wait for it …. injured and nit justifying all the picks.@"mblack" said: John Carlson, Mike Wallace, Sam Bradford, Daniel Carlson, Kaare V, Josh Freeman etc. All GMs made good and bad descisions. I think we can throw Sam Bradford out of that mix. When you are a conference favorite and lose your starting quarterback to a catastrophic leg injury 10 days before the regular season starts...you do what you have to do, and Bradford was a good player for us until his knee gave out. There were no better options and holding that move as a negative against Spieman is ridiculousThis is what was said at the time
The Vikings gave up a first-round pick in 2017 and a fourth-round pick in 2018 that can become a third- or second-rounder based on conditions -- a massive price to pay for what could amount to one season of work.
Again i am not blaming Rick. i am just saying all GMs have good and bad moves.

It's not an excuse, but what was the alternative? What would you have preferred him to do in that situation?
@"supafreak84" said:Rick didn't need to spend a 1st and 4th for a slightly better than average QB. Bradford never lived up to the hype that surrounded him. Rick panicked and shouldn't have given up so much for a QB that would lead them to an 8-8 season.@"mblack" said:@"supafreak84" said:Nope you cant make excuses why a pick was made or draft was made. 1. The Eagles easily won that trade by using the picks they acquired from Bradford to draft defensive end Derek Barnett, trade for running back Jay Ajayi, and use cap space to sign Alshon Jeffery.

Ok....so again, what was the alternative? Bridgewater destroys his leg 10 days before the start of the regular season. The amount of available quarterbacks that could be had via trade at that point was slim and there was nobody on the open market unless you'd have preferred a McCown or someone of that caliber. Teams knew they could squeeze us for more out of desperation and Rick made a move to keep a conference favorite in the playoff picture by trading for a former #1 overall pick. You don't waste window years and we were in our window at that point

Not sure, but going strickly on value, veteran GM Trader Rick got his ass handed to him by the Eagles.

Lol you can throw "value" out the window when your starting QB goes down 10 days before the season starts. There is no value to be had at that point
Yea I remember being all in on getting Bradford at that time. Teddy's injury was a tragedy for him and us and I think he was affected to this day. Hindsight is 20/20 but I was all in and do not blame Rick for getting the best available QB for a solid team.
And Bradford had a really good season. He threw for 3,877 yards, 20 TD's, 5 INT's and completed almost 72% of his passes. For reference in comparison to last year's QB stats (in a much more pass happy league now) that would have placed him 9th in yardage, first in completion percentage, and the lowest INT number among starters. Not bad. It's a shame his knee injuries cut his career short.
As much as I hate to, I have to agree with Supa on this one. In 2016, after the Vikings made the playoffs the year before and lost the heartbreaker in the ice bowl, the Vikings were ready to go all the way with Teddy. When he got hurt, the 2016 season was all but over. Trading for Bradford was the best option--probably the only option. And, sure, we paid for it. But damned if Bradford didn't look pretty good that year. Even better the following year. That opener against the Saints might have been the best QB play this team has seen since the Favre year. Then, of course, he gets hurt when Sticky Bun cursed him...and us. And that was a damn shame. Vikings win the Super Bowl that year if Bradford stays healthy. He was so much better than Keenum, even with the horseshoe.
I'd have tanked it and drafted Mahomes the next spring. When Ted went down with such a brutal injury my first thought was tank the season and draft his successor.
Now before anyone cries it would be impossible to pull that off, I have been told over and over around here what a great g.m. Rick was. Surely a great g.m. could have accomplished that, instead of giving up the farm for journeyman Sam Bradford and his bum knees, right?
Unfortunately, short-term short-sighted thinking helmed the Longship for many years, leading to so many missed opportunities on the personnel front. Maybe KAM is finally going to change that, we'll see.
