Crisp routes, speed to burn, good hands, moves and shifts and leaves defenders behind.  The only knock was the size but the rest of the package might render that moot.  I was skeptical because of that size but he's eroding that skepticism pretty rapidly. =)

He sure looks the part of a pro...It'll be interesting to watch his development and how KOC utilizes him.

I'm sure we'll see him get playing time pre-season games.

Jordan Addison promised he would be ready once he put the pads on. Though he missed all of organized team activities this spring, working his way back from a minor injury, he wasn’t worried about being too far behind for training camp.
“I’ve been doing this all my life,” he said at the start of training camp. “I’ll be able to jump back in and get to where I need to be at.”
That has been the case so far as Addison has showcased why the Vikings selected him No. 23 overall in the 2023 NFL Draft. Whether it’s making a diving catch over the middle last week in team drills, or smoking cornerback Joejuan Williams this week in individual drills, Addison has certainly looked the part of a successful draft pick.
“What he’s done on the grass so far has confirmed a lot of the things that we expected from Jordan,” coach Kevin O’Connell said. “He’s also done some things instinctively, playing football within the confines of our scheme.”
A perfect example of that came this week during a scramble drill. As quarterback Kirk Cousins moved around in the pocket to keep a play alive, Addison improvised on the fly, finding a sliver of space in the corner of the end zone, then tapping his toes inbounds to make the catch.
“He’s a natural catcher of the football,” Cousins said. “He tracks the ball well. I’m excited about continuing to do more with him to get him involved. Hopefully that can take pressure off of our other guys and make teams have to defend even more grass.”
It’s not hard to imagine Addison complementing fellow Vikings receivers Justin Jefferson, K.J. Osborn, and T.J. Hockenson on the field. It seems as if O’Connell is banking on the fact that opposing teams won’t be able to defend everyone at once. Especially with all of those pass catchers capable of playing all over the field.
“He’s handled it well,” Cousins said. “I’ve always been surprised at how well rookies transition, because whether it was me getting drafted or me coming here in free agency, I felt like it took me a lot longer to learn everything and adapt well to what I observe the other guys being able to do."
It helped that Addison spent most of his summer in Minnesota as he recovered from a minor injury. He got to work with receiver coach Keenan McCardell regularly as he learned the playbook front to back.
“I think he takes pride in himself as a player to make sure when he goes out here for practice that he hears it the first time and knows what to do,” Cousins said. “We just need him in the huddle hearing plays, getting lined up and stacking up those opportunities.”
Maybe the biggest thing that Cousins has realized about Addison in practice so far is his ability to battle for the ball in traffic. That skill will be tested even more over the next couple of weeks.
“He’s pretty natural at the catch point, which is exciting,” Cousins said. “When we’re not in full-go tackle, it’s harder to evaluate that, and that’s where we have to get in preseason games.”
As of right now, O’Connell said his main goal for Addison, like everyone else on the team, is for him to get 1 percent better every practice.
“Every time he doesn’t understand something, I’m trying to teach him how to understand it or ask him what he’s got on this play, so he knows when he comes out on the field,” Jefferson said. “I want to be that guy to teach him and help him work his way through that.”

Same. When I put him on I didn't see anything that stood out. But it's really hard to see what makes him special (routes and footwork) in youtube highlights. What's more, I was looking for WR1s. A Carter to JJ's Moss. The Vikings were specifically looking for a JJ complement. And Addison looks absolutely perfect for that.

I think if Addison has a great rookie season, Keenan McCardell's career is going to take off.

As someone who remembers the '98 squad of Carter/Reed/Moss and just how miserable that was for our opponents...the concept of JJ/KJ/Addison plus Hock is amazing for this lifelong fan.

HOPEFULLY...this means we'll have new, exciting things like QUICK SLANT ROUTES and similar options that we seem to avoid, despite known protection issues....

The optimism may need to be brought down a bit because its training camp and he is going against our defense.  Lets see what he can do in preseason first after all this was a Kwesi pick and we all know he is in over his head.

That and the tenacity to practice full speed are what made Thielen great.  JJ is a fabulous route runner, not giving anything away before he breaks, although JJ is rather unorthodox in the way he does it.

If Addison is as good of a route runner as advertised, then he will compliment JJ quite nicely.

Of course, he's extremely talented and he'll get open consistently. He's probably a WR1 in the NFL in two years, but he's stuck behind JJ. Minnesota is going to benefit from this kid's rookie contract. The more I read about him, the more I think its a 10 win team bottom now. Maybe 9 wins was just a bit lite. He's money on the routes, that's a huge deal. Guys getting open within 20 yards of the line of scrimmage consistently will open up the deep ball, especially knowing Mattison will average over 4.5 yds a carry.

Throw in Hock, the new blocking TE they signed and a healthy Mattison hammering it home, might be a real pain in the ass to defend the Vikings' offense.

they are still very much here,  its just a matter of if the refs throw the flag for it.  JJ took some pretty nasty hits last year when Kirk led him into harms way and in tight situations the refs let them go as its harder to argue that the defender wasnt going for the ball.

I think I remember the Jets game specifically.  Those were targeted head shots and should have been flagged.  But that is because they couldn't find another way to stop him.

We'll learn a whole lot more about him (and the team) over the joint practices the next two weeks.

My prediction is that Oliver is going to make more of an impact than many here believe - and its going to be catching the ball, not just another OT out there.

I think the Ravens under-utilized the guy. He could be more of a Kleinsasser type to pair with TJH.

Its the most wonderful time of the year for football fans...

Last year about this time Kirko was remarking how difficult it was to play against _onatells _efense in practice too.

Watched him all last year, has great speed, excellent route running and finds the opening, was really excited to have him at USC, however as the year went on he got banged up and was never the same.  He has the talent, the question is if he can stay healthy.  I am sure they will beef him up over the first few years which should help.
