QB Jaren Hall

Well built kid, does comp to a Russ Willson-lite. Elusive. Excellent toughness and leadership. Smart. Everything depends on that arm strength or lack thereof. Can a NFL QB coach get some more velocity into his throws? I read various things about it, that its actually decent to his arm strength sucks. I think his upside is decent backup, which would be nice unto itself. Who knows if it ever happens or not.
From a personality perspective, fans will like him: hard working, humble, driven to succeed. Amicable. Mature. He'll be eager to learn from Cousins and Mullens.
just really starting to look at this kid. early thoughts.
He's been well coached on ball protection as a runner, he switches that ball quickly and properly to the outside hand once he chooses a direction to run.. i like to see that (keeps your inside arm free to stiff arm and protect the ball, and yourself, something AD never really adopted )
his arm strength being a question is bull, if anything its his lazy footwork at times that has him throwing off his back foot, but that can be fixed, his arm is more than pro level.
I like his quick twitch, both in faking a pass, actually making a pass, or in making defenders miss. there is a shit ton to work with here.
so far I think his down the field ( drop it in a bucket throws) are to wide for a pro reception ( 2 feet vs 1 foot ) but that can be helped with better receivers giving him more room to drop it in, but on the flip side... those throws dont get picked off either.
I am liking this kid more than I initially thought. more to come...

I watched him a couple times this year and when I heard we brought him in on an official visit I started digging in a little more. He has legitimate boom potential and the Russell Wilson comparisons are real. Very similar playing styles. I really like everything about him and would not be surprised to see him get a shot this year at some point if things go bad
Once the dust settles, we tend to look at the positives of our draft picks. So what's important for a NFL QB? Mobility. Good decision making. Accuracy. Leadership. Decent arm. Low injuries. Maturity. Hall has many of these traits. He's in a very good spot to learn and grow in Minnesota. He obviously has weaknesses that made him a 5th round pick. I like the pick.
Injury history was mentioned.. is that due to his dual use in college?

He seems like a Taylor Heinicke to me, someone who could come in and win some games. When Hooker fell into the 3rd, I didn't see any reason not to move up and go get him, especially since it doesn't seem to me that we got a lot of value with our 3rd and 4th rounders.

Finding a QB who can transition from college to the NFL is a fool's errand. Even in the 1st round, where you have a 17% chance of drafting a long-term starter. I don't know what the odds are for a day three QB, but they're probably under 3%. So I'm just hoping he eventually unseats Mullens as our QB2. I think his upside is Taylor Heinicke with a better brain.
I think 90% of what makes QBs successful is what's inside. Brock Purdy wasn't big, wasn't fast, didn't have a great arm, but it sounds like he and Hall have similar intangibles.
A true testimony of Jaren Halls leadership.

I just remembered this moment today randomly.
Jaren Hall leads two drives into FG range, once in regulation and once in OT
BYU K Jake Oldroyd misses both kicks
BYU eventually wins and Hall instantly hugs an emotional Oldroyd pic.twitter.com/ttxo0q9q71
Vikings are over-due for a sleeper @ QB who blows-up on em. Something Wilson'esque.
I'd love it to be this kid.
One of things he mentioned was his mobility giving him the ability to function well when the play breaks down. He feels he is good at off script plays. Vikings haven't had that type of QB for awhile.
I also like his completion to interception ratio.
Long odds against him, but seems to have a higher ceiling than many of the later round QB's.
@"StickyBun" said:I just watched his combine performance and his arm seemed strong enough. He did over throw a couple on the long pass, but otherwise had decent strength and accuracy and made some nice throws.@"Still Hurtn" said: Injury history was mentioned.. is that due to his dual use in college? I was thinking maybe we have our new Sloter.
@"purplefaithful" said: not to go too far down the rabbit hole, but outside of Hurts in the NFC, I dont know another QB I would want over KC:Dak?
Fields?
Love?
Goff?
Purdy?
Smith?
Maybe (big maybe) Murray
Danny Dimes?
Dalton?
Stafford
Darnold
Heinicke
For most of those I don't think you need the qualifier "over KC"
Dak, Murray and Danny have huge contracts without much return. Goff was good this last year, but he has struggled once teams get the book on him.

Seems about the opposite of sloter. There was a physical specimen with little between his ears. Made for great preseason highlights against non-NFL level competition.Hall may be lacking the physical traits in some aspects, but seems to have the mental capacity to be a long term NFL QB.

Exactly, I'd call him the anti-Sloter actually.

Exactly, I'd call him the anti-Sloter actually.I was thinking more along the line of how the board is going to react to him. Some will be banging a drum for him after Cousins throws a pick.

That will likely be true. Glad he isn't a first round pick, then it would be when Cousins arrives at camp.

Hardly unique to sloter, the backup QB is the most popular player on any team that doesn't have a franchise QB.

That doesn't explain why sloter was popular.

because he was athletic and looked decent against the players he was put up against. he didnt get moved up, even though the back up looked like about as appealing as a cup of warm piss.
