#222 RB DeWayne McBride UAB
and th-th-th-that's all folks.
Looks interesting. He was on Kippers list forever so we should all be ecstatic that we got “value”
McBride was my 2nd favorite back in the draft after Tyjae Spears. He can't block, he can't catch passes and he can't hold onto the football. But if you teach him those things, you have one of the truly elite runners of the football. Probably just a 2-down back, but ridiculous value in the 7th.

So we drafted a guy that can run, but as far as being a RB he doesn't do anything else very well. I really question if you can teach those things to a late round player quick enough to get them to make an impact and make the cut. The blocking is a big ding, as is not catching the ball well, but fumbling is a killer, especially for a RB IMO.

2nd leading rusher in college football in the 7th round. You don't get flawless players there.

Let me guess...A real sleeper?
People who don't follow the draft are waking up to who DeWayne McBride is....
UAB RB DeWayne McBride should have never been available in the 7th round. This is a crazy steal for the Minnesota #Vikings. pic.twitter.com/Pc8pw1ZAwW

McBride is the kind of RB that will get you yardage. He's hard nosed, low gravity and some wiggle. He's not going to be a home run hitter like Dalvin Cook.
“He was somebody we had fairly high up on our board with kind of a starter grade,” Adofo-Mensah said. “I think a lot of times in college running backs aren’t used in the passing game so maybe there was some questions about his ability…we had good intel that he has more pass-game value than he showed.”
- Made Bruce Feldman's Freak's List - ranked #93. He wrote, "McBride, who ran for 1,371 yards and 13 touchdowns while averaging 6.72 yards per carry and led the nation with an average of 4.72 yards after contact, cleans 345 pounds and bench-presses 385 and has squatted 550. In addition, he ran the 40 in the low 4.5s."

He's a 7th round rookie who's got a lot to work on. But I think he makes the team.
Saw his highlights...good change of direction and does not go down easily. Runs through arm tackles...strong. Can stay upright in a crowd.
Stoopid value in the 7th...This guy will make the team.

Think a 7th rounder can't make it?
Terry Allen was drafted in the 9th round in 1990, a year after the Vikings traded for Herschel Walker. 30 running backs were taken before Terry Allen, 7 of whom never played a down.
Herschel Walker was a bust. Allen was an All Pro. Allen cost the Vikings a 9th rounder. Walker cost them Jesse Solomon, David Howard, Issiac Holt, Alex Stewart, three 1sts, three 2nds and a 3rd.
In fact, the only RB taken that year who had a better career than Allen was Emmitt Smith, a player the Cowboys drafted with the Vikings pick.
Cursed I tell ya.

I remember rooting for Allen...
Heart of a lion and a tenacious runner.
I think it was the knee that ended that career?

If I remember correctly, there were multiple times he missed a game here or there, but nothing season ending, he played through it. Then he couldn't any more, and was let go. Twenty first pick 9th round and where is he today, HOF or just walking unassisted?

Terry Allen was awesome, and I loved him as a RB. I do believe he had issues with both knees. Too bad too; the guy was a real star player when healthy.
Terry Allen had multiple 1,000 yard seasons after leaving the Vikings. They let him go because they had already drafted Robert Smith and didn't want to pay Allen when they thought Smith could take over.

Took Smith a # of years to get it together too; tonsils, ear infections and other kiddie ailments early on. Wasn't till years later we learned Smith was battling his other demons all those years as well.
They were both nice to watch.
We talk about the storied history of Vikings DL and WR's, and that would be true.
We've also had some pretty good tailbacks over the decades. And a few Rick Fenney's too :)
Here's how new #Vikings RB DeWayne McBride ranks in translatable metrics (NCAA to NFL):
