Well....We're all thinking the same thing, what does this mean about Lamar?

So the Ravens have dragged their feet for 2 years on Lamar who until this last year has been drama-free,  but go 8 figures for an injury-prone 30+ head case WR.

Lamar's representation issues aside, the Ravens have seemed to repeatedly take Jackson for granted for years by signing literally everyone else while having no plan to deal with actually paying the guy who makes the offense work.  No wonder  Jackson reportedly wants a Watson-type deal from somebody if not the Ravens.  To him it would mean that a team values him as more than a gimmick or a caddy.

Also, Lamar made less in his first 4 years than what OBJ could make this year. The Ravens had him on the cheap from '18-'21, only $9.5 million total for 4 years and even his 5th year option in '22 wasn't that bad at $23 million.  This is his first chance to really hit the jackpot, and it sure looks like the Ravens are doing their damnedest to keep it from happening.

It's a business and the Ravens are being smart considering the type of QB that Jackson is.... a running QB that will likely continue to break down and more frequently with age.  Play the franchise card game for a few years and have his replacement ready for  when the day comes you are ready to get off that train.

The issue with Lamar is injuries and the potential for more with his style. Ravens are playing hardball. Other teams seem to agree with the Ravens on this, that tying up that much cap space for a guy that misses games every year or has the potential to have a season ending injury isn't a great way to spend your cap money.

Wow, that's a lot. About double what people were speculating. Have to think this is some sort of bone for Lamar? I mean, what's the point in signing OBJ without a QB? I'm sure OBJ would like to know that as well.

Yeah, I think this is to help sweeten the situation for
Lamar and help provide him an incentive to want to play for the Ravens now that
no other suiters are really showing up to his rescue.

Lamar should wait until the last day to sign his franchise tag and announce publicly that because he is on a one-year deal he will be strictly a drop back passer, like what you see in Brady, Cousins, Darnold, Brees, etc. and that he will veto any play call that requires him to run the ball. No more RPOs; no more scrambling for 50 yards; no more 1,000 rushing yards in a season. Expect closer to 100 yards.

He should tell them that because the Raven are installing a new offense and because he will not be there for much of the installation, the offense will be a work in progress and people should not expect much in the first year. He should also say that he will be happy to sign a second franchise tender next year under the same terms. In other words, the Ravens are getting Lamar as their QB, but not the Lamar that they are used to.

If he signs a one year deal on a franchise deal what would a Lamar be worth after that being a drop back passer and 100 yard rusher?  Is he even a top tier quarterback as a drop back passer and 100 yard rusher? Could be Lamar's high dollar contract days may be nearing an end based on his playing style and potential for injury the older he gets.  So far nobody has stepped up with a guaranteed contract so maybe that day is fast approaching.

You can't give him what he wants and give the Ravens the 2 first round picks.  Sure you can toss picks away on players that may not play to that level,  but you can't pay for that kind of contract and not have the picks to have top tier talent on rookie deals to offset it.  Thats part of the problem with Kirk,  his money with his talent level only works if you hit on enough draft picks to offset them, and keep the talent level of the team at a high tier.  The team hasn't drafted well enough and hit often enough the last few years to allow for success, and with KAMs penchant for trading picks away,  its going to be harder yet.
