I think Cook has been a great back, but the statistics don't lie.  I look at what the Beagles did last season with a stable of 5'6" to 5'8" quick RBs.  Fast Kene and quick Chandler seem to fit that mold.

I'd take a 5th and a conditional up to a 4th next year. A 5th alone for someone as productive as Cook, is a low ball offer.

I would not trade Dalvin Cook, who is one of the top backs in the league and still only 27....for a lowly 5th round pick. You would be trading a guy with at least 3 to 4 years left of top flight production for peanuts. This is a better offense with Cook in the backfield

Can't find the link but I believe he's refusing to restructure or take less money.

I think you've missed the part we DC say "F" that noise.   He is not interested in a pay cut,  so what are you looking at doing that creates that cap space with his deal?   Maybe could free up about 3 million if you move his signing to a roster bonus ( not really sure if that can be done or not )  but that only brings his hit down to about 11 million.  am I missing a way to bring it lower?

I don't think Havoc is talking about a pay cut.

so I asked,  how do you get 14 million to under 8 without a pay cut?  he certainly isnt talking about an extension with 3 years left on a deal for a 28 year old RB with a history of injuries?

Do the Vikings think they can win the North and compete for a SB this season? If so, absolutely keep Dalvin. If not then Dalvin and many others should be replaced. Kendricks unfortunately was not a fit in the defense they ran last season and are apparently sticking with. A bummer but that made sense to move on. But the next week or so will be telling as to whether the front office is all-in, is rolling with more of the competitive rebuild, or is burning it down. I think Dalvin fits on this roster if it's either of the first two options.
This.  If the Vikings are planning to run it back and go for it again, then you keep Cook. If he was in the last year of his deal, maybe you think differently...  But he can still play and this offense needs as many playmakers as it can get.  Cook is still one of them.

But...  if the Vikings are going to let Kirk play out the last year of his contract and look at a reset...  Then we should look at shedding Cook, Hunter, and any other players that don't fit that window for picks.  We'll need them to either make a move for Lamar or moving up for a young QB.

I think Cook's money spent on defense helps us more than Cook over Mattison or even a committee of young backs.

Maybe...  if we trade Cook and re-sign Mattison, some of that 8 mil is eaten up by AM's contract.  And if you give me the choice of Cook, Kene, and Chandler or Mattison, Kene, Chandler and a couple million to spend on defense...  I'll keep Cook if the comp is a 5th round pick.

Gonna be some growing pains on defense as we get younger/shed some cap space.  I'd rather keep a top offense to carry our retooled defense.

Jeremy Fowler at ESPN reporting the Vikings are "open for business" and are actively trying to trade Dalvin Cook. They have interest in retaining Alexander Mattison in free agency. Stay tuned, this week is about to get interesting...

Hell, it's already been too interesting for me...

Having to say goodbye to some players I have really enjoyed the last 8+ years. Then The Olde Trapper passing, I dont know how much more fun I can take  :/

I think it's just as much about future money as it is about current money. You get rid of Dalvin now he's off the books in 24. And if you extend Mattison, say 4 years, his cap hit in '23 and '24 would likely be trivial.

I think Chandler is the one to watch though.

I like what I saw from Chandler in the preseason. I'm not in favor of trading Dalvin Cook, but if they do, resigning Mattison as the lead back with Chandler and Nwegwu as the change of pace backs would be interesting. RB is the one position where I think we have some quality depth
