I know it's Christmas Eve, but in the case of a number of franchises, sagging attendance is becoming a real issue. It seems every Pittsburgh game I've watched for the last 3years, their stadium is at 60% capacity. Of course the Chargers games have been a debacle since the move to LA, Atlanta crowds have usually been crap unless playing a trumped up rival. There are others, and it not a good look. Minnesota is certainly lucky to have the fanbase they do for having a team with zero championships.

Which also raises the question, will the NFL retain a strong fan base when salaries get completely silly and leave fans wondering if they want to continue funding player’s quality of life.

The question for me is why do they need to play in 60k seat billion plus dollar stadiums,  when its really just the luxury boxes,  tv revenue, and corporate naming shit they care about.

I think part of it is related to the last couple of years. Of course there are some crappy teams and some of it is economics. Also some fans have really good set ups at home to watch so they choose to stay home. Ticket prices are definitely a factor as well.

It brings up an interesting correlation to what's happening with the College Championship model where they will only be played in one of 8 places on a rotation. Maybe the new NFL championship stadiums will have the larger seating capacity. Playing in Feb. really only leaves warm weather cities with the infrastructure for a crazy big event as viable options.  For most franchises it does seem like the era of 40,000 general public and increased boxes and luxury sections could become the norm, in which case, NFL owners should be largely cut off from the teat of the public funding.
