Hell, we dont see him now - I will miss him....not

You are unlikely to draft a player of his caliber in the late 2nd through 4th round. He's a great run blocker. Definitely an upgrade in the passing game.If he decides not to resign with the Vikings, they are going to get a compensatory pick of some flavor that may effectively cancel out some of what they gave up to the Lions. If he plays well and resigns, they are going to fill a big need without using much draft capital. In any case, will help them make a push in 2022.
And our 2nd rounder next year and their 4th rounder will likely be closer to only trading down 1 round, not 2.

I believe the Lions already exercised their 5th year option on TJ. So the Vikings will owe him his guaranteed 2023 salary (probably $9 to 10M). I suspect we will want to extend him next year as well.

call me a crazy optimist but that 2024 swap of 4ths could very well move us up in that round as well.

For only a 2nd round pick in 2023 and mid rounders in 24, outstanding deal for us.
100%!
Versus signing OBJ..... this was a shrewd smart move.

A huge deal, with the #Vikings sending a 2023 2nd rounder and a 2024 fourth rounder for Hockenson, a 2023 fourth rounder and a 2024 conditional fourth rounder. pic.twitter.com/ryxNrHzGP8
Looks like we send a 2024 4th and get one back.
Edit: my computer is glitching but JR44 posted a tweet from Rapoport that said we sent a 2024 4 to Detroit and get a conditional 4 back.
I just love that he is going to be a draw for safeties to come down and have to deal with his athleticism. He is a big red zone target that will pair very well with Jet. I feel this is going to free up Jet a lot more, especially lined up on the same side. KJ and Adam become your deep threat (KJ) and short-medium outlets (AT).
PLUS he's a hell of a blocker which Irv was not. So going 3 wide with a TE can be just as effective as having run blocking TE in but an additional threat and potential great matchup with an audible.
This kid, 25, is not only going to have an impact on this season but also could be a stud for the franchise for the next 5 years.
Can he get up to speed to step in this Sunday---I want to see me some in the trenches dirty football

Right now the Vikings are in line to pick 30th. The Lions are in line to pick first. Their second round pick is slated to be #61 overall. The Lions' 4th round pick is slated to be #102 overall.

The value difference between the two picks is equal to the last pick of the 6th round https://t.co/0qPD7Lu8an
I can't wait to see the roster moves this week...
Who did the Packers trade for? Oh, that's right. They're not in the position to be buyers. B)
this isn’t just a replacement for ISJ, it’s an upgrade, he’s averaging 15.2 ypc… he should also be a huge help on 3rd downs, I’m stoked!!!
Some numbers and Info:Hockenson 6'5 - 245lbs - only 25 yrs old
Made Pro Bowl 2020 - First down machine in 2020 with 67 catches and 40 FD's - move the chains
Overall career of 108 FD's on 186 catches - impressive
No Fumbles
2021 missed end of season with broken finger/thumb suffered vs Vikings and the Lions only victory
2019 missed end of rookie season with broken right ankle
Comparison I noticed from last year - almost the same stats for Hockenson (12 games) as Conklin had for us in 16 games and Conklin had a very good year for us.
Like this trade more than the rumored Gesicki trade because Hock is an all-around rec TE that can block very well. Hockenson is going to be a big help in the run game as well as an outlet for Kirk.
Checks all the boxes of a good trade - 25, former Pro Bowl

Couple of Grades:
CBS
Vikings acquire T.J. HockensonVikings get: TE T.J. Hockenson, 2023 fourth-round pick, 2024 conditional fourth-round pick
Lions get: 2023 second-round pick, 2024 third-round pick
With Irv Smith Jr. banged up, Minnesota needed some help at tight end. Instead, they got a massive upgrade. Hockenson has battled his own injuries, but when healthy, he's easily a top-10 pass catcher at his position, rounding out an already-impressive Vikings group that includes Dalvin Cook, Justin Jefferson and Adam Thielen. All the Vikings are surrendering, to secure Hockenson through at least 2023 on a reasonable deal, is essentially the equivalent of a second-rounder. Detroit has reason to sell, to be sure, but why did their trade chip have to be one of their few proven building blocks, who will now play them twice a year and be difficult to replace even with the improved draft capital?
Lions grade: D+
SB Nation:
T.J. Hockenson traded to the Minnesota VikingsFull deal: Minnesota Vikings acquire tight end T.J. Hockenson, a 2023 fourth-round pick and a conditional 2024 fourth-round pick. Detroit Lions receive a 2023 second-round pick and a 2024 third-round pick.
Lions grade: C+
Vikings grade: A-
The Vikings are one of the surprise teams this season, sitting at 6-1 and holding the second-best record in the NFC, behind only the Eagles, who the Vikings lost to earlier in this season. One of the weaknesses in Minnesota right now, however, is the tight end position. Quarterback Kirk Cousins is currently 30th in QBR when targeting tight ends this season, out of 33 qualified passers.
With tight end Irv Smith Jr. also expected to be sidelined for eight-to-ten weeks with a high ankle sprain, this is a perfect move for the Vikings, who did not give up much to acquire Hockenson from a division rival.
As for the Lions’ perspective, granted there are rumblings that the organization might not reach a long-term deal with the tight end, who is set to become a free agent following the 2023 campaign. The Lions picked up his fifth-year option this past offseason, meaning Hockenson is under contract for next year. Given that there was still time to work out a long-term deal, it seems that Detroit could have gotten more in this deal.
64% receptions---but look at that first down# move sticks
SCORE VIKINGS!!!

I think this is the key to the whole thing. Before, it was Irv's in, Vikings are passing. Mundt's in, they're running. TJH allows them to play 1 TE more often with no tip off to run or pass.
