Cordarrelle Patterson is an anomaly. There’s a short list of 31 year old RBs who’ve looked this explosive. Look at the move he puts on Diggs (6) just by changing directions.

He has played well. But I'll say that clip isn't maybe the best example. How wide open can a RB be on that play, lol?
Wish RS had never let him get away. He would be pretty beloved around here if he was still in purple and making an impact, even as a change of pace RB, WR3, KR, gunner-- heck, last year he told coaches he wanted to play Safety! He's like the peewee football player who hits puberty before everyone else and can just play wherever and make an impact. Except he's doing it in the NFL.
I know he had some down years but who didn't during those days in Oakland? And Belichek has really never utilized gadget players like CPatt very well. Overall a very solid career for him and it's fun to see him running hard for ATL again this year. Happy for him.

Now he’s been named the NFC offensive player of the week.
While Patterson wears No. 84 after entering the league as a receiver,
he’s now a bona fide running back who continues to make plays. He had
17 carries for 141 yards with a touchdown in Sunday’s victory along with
one 12-yard reception.
He’s rushed for at least 120 yards in two
of Atlanta’s three games, as he recorded 120 yards rushing and three
catches for 16 yards in the Falcons’ season-opening loss to the Saints.
It’s
the first time Patterson has been named offensive player of the week.
And Patterson is the first falcons running back to earn the honro since
Devonta Freeman in 2016.
After a long West Coast trip, the Falcons will try to keep things rolling at home against the Browns on Sunday.

He can look explosive at 31 because he has taken limited snaps for much of his career. I always enjoyed watching him, kinda wish we'd kept him around.
Loved what CP brought to the game. I always believed he was worth a roster spot and should have stayed a Viking for his career. His KR ability alone still was a game changer.
Keeping him for the 2017 team could have put us over the edge with another dynamic weapon to mix in. 3WR with Patterson flexing all over the field could have been what we needed to win those close losses (Det, at Pitt, at Carolina). I believe he would have done very well in Pat's offense with screens and reverses.
Crazy to think that the '17 team was two relatively easy roster decisions from having a WR room of:
Diggs-Thielen-Thomas(over Treadwell)-Patterson-Wright

A couple of us called for him to be converted to tailback early. That baltimore game in the snow was epic. Poo Poo on Rick and our previous coaches for not understanding his value. Coverage reads are much more complex than HB reads. Duh.

Yes, there were a few who advocated for him to run some RB plays. I had the vision to poo poo that thought because according to my vision he ran too upright and was too big a target. I really know football, just ask :)

In all fairness there are no pro scouts here. you make a good point about running upright. CP prolly has had to learn that. Other than that it “see hole, hit hole”. much easier than reading coverages and figuring out route options.

That is the whole issue right there. Built like a WR, but didn't have the mental acuity for it. Kudos to those that have found him his niche. He was always super talented and seemed like a hard worker, so good for him.

In fairness, he returned kicks with more vigor early on until he took a good shot and that made him shy from contact, after that i would have never guessed he'd take the pounding of a RB either.
He seemed like a good guy; happy for him.
Wished I had seen him in a Chuck Foreman type offense with him taking swing passes all afternoon. Foreman, you may recall, played wide receiver his senior year in college (running back his junior).
