Didn't AD only get 6 games as well?
No, he lost the ENTIRE 2014 season less the first game.
AD lost most of the 2014 season, but most of it was the Vikings choice, not a league decision. The Vikings voluntarily chose to sideline AD because it was bad optics/they had morality, and the league officially sidelined him for the last 6 games of the season.Deshaun Watson lost all of the 2021 season because his team voluntarily decided to sideline him for optics/morality + now the 6 officially suspended games of the 2022 season.
AD lost 15 games, Watson lost 23 games. Am I getting anything wrong here?

so the NFL gets to look "tough" on sexual deviance, but has this former judge do the dirty work and lets cleveland off by handing them a cake schedule for the exact number of games of the suspension... no wonder Vince McMahon is retiring... apparently he doesnt have the "rigged sport" crown to himself any longer. makes a person wonder how much other crap in the NFL is arranged for convenience or profit, instead of whats best for the integrity of the game.
Not really but not only that they had a woman former judge because they didn't want to deal with bias or backlash. She is put in the position of trying not to appear too tough or supposedly too weak. It is pathetic and sad but not surprising.

Watson deliberately sat out last year because he was trying to force a trade out of Houston. His absence last year was his choice, not punishment by the league. The NFL totally wimped out here because if Watson doesn't play this season the Browns lose the only "cheap" salary cap hit on the contract. Watson's cap hit this year is $9,683,000. For 2023-26 it skyrockets to $54,993,000 each year. Good luck with that.
The cherry on the salary cap sundae is Denzel Ward, whose big extension doesn't take effect until next year. His cap hit of only $5,035,000 this year jumps to $12,321,000 in '23 and $23,601,000 in '24. So....
Watson+Ward salary cap hit
'22: $14,718,000
'23: $67,314,000
'24: $78,594,000If the Browns don't make their run this season, it's going to get a lot tougher to keep that roster together. So the NFL made sure Watson would be back in plenty of time for the playoffs.

Exactly and that serves him right to lose last year too because fuck that noise and fuck the Texans and the Browns.

Not exactly right... AD was put on the Commissioner Exempt list until the legal stuff was sorted out which left him there all season. And then he was suspended after that.Watson was sitting out to force a trade and then the civil suits were filed and the team let him continue to sit out while things were sorted out.
I'm also not sure why the NFL is getting heat right now from some of you. The judge is an independent disciplinary officer that is part of the collectively bargained discipline process now instead of Goodell (or any future commissioner) who just handed out his own punishments. The NFL office can appeal her decision. If they don't, then sure... give them heat for not doing more to keep a sexual predator off the field. But everything that has leaked has shown the the NFL was pushing for an indefinite suspension.

Or at least thats the narrative that they want the public to have. They don't make money when the stars are out of the game, but they can't openly ignore the allegations either, so their "independent " third party can make a ruling, the NFL can stomp their feet a bit and let out leaks to how they aren't happy, but in the end this is a win for the NFL. As soon as football starts this will blow over and by week 10 it won't be brought up again.I laugh about the judge saying its a non violent offense, however if any non celebrity were to physically take a woman's hand and force her to rub his junk ( as has been alleged)...wouldn't that be sexual assualt at least? How is physically making somebody do something against their will non violent?

The NFL doesn't let anything out that doesn't conform to its narrative. So yeah, they are controlling this response in a big way.
Sounds to me like there is a lot of posturing going on. From the judge (non-violent?) and especially from the NFL. They can hint all they want about a tougher punishment but I just don’t believe this deal would have gotten done unless Cleveland knew they would have him for the bulk of the season. This is all window dressing. The outlines of the deal were all understood weeks ago.

From the way his contract is structured to the way the schedule is set up as well as the negotiations beforehand. Consequences are not supposed to be a negotiation but that happens in the legal process, deals are made. He gets rewarded for being a POS. He thinks he is invincible now.
....and yet the fans were lining up 4 deep to get his autograph at Brown's camp. Wash, rinse and repeat.
I was listening to some one comparing and contrasting with the 4 game suspension Roethlisberger received and neither seem to be anything resembling a good outcome. Other than Felony vs Civil accusation Watson is a more likable citizen. Any other employer wouldn't accept this kind of behavior.
@"StickyBun" said: ....and yet the fans were lining up 4 deep to get his autograph at Brown's camp. Wash, rinse and repeat. No doubt and there were fans raving about the supposed injustice to Watson, just like there are fans celebrating the weak punishment. No surprise there.
Robinson is going by the language of the new discipline process as well as precedence. It pretty much sucks because they want this bs limbo where it is not really severe consequences. But viewing the cases as 1 offense is absolutely ridiculous. It is a pattern of behavior and this is part of why women don't come forward. It's a bad look all around.
This whole situation reeks. The more I look into this decision the angrier I get. It's like the judge is just saying that it's going to be the NFL that will have to step up because I won't. The fact that only 4 of the 24 cases were used in the decision is utter bullshit. This entire thing is a sham but it is the NFL so I am not surprised, just pissed.

I just don't know what the league is going to do now. But Watson is basically getting away with it and women are being dismissed once again. He has expressed no remorse or accountability. The Browns front office do not give a fuck. I am definitely rooting against the Browns. Go Bengals.

The Browns had to have known that this was the likely outcome before the trade.
I call BS on the judge---citing 21 violent cases in the past only getting 6 games sus. so precedent set. They were individual incidents. This POS has multiple accusers so even if we only look at the three she actually considered that's 3 incidents X 6 games= 1 year and one game
She lumped it all as one incident so as to come to her pre-arranged tough on crime stance within the precedence BS.

Well yeah, at $1M/happy ending I'd be trying to get near him as well.
