Should the Vikings bring back Rudy?
I think they should. I just mentioned yesterday how the Vikings appear to be two and three deep at their offensive weapon positions. All except TE. At the right price (low!), Rudy would be a pretty good TE2 and a positive culture addition.

Agreed.
Rudy has always been slow. But he has also been a reliable red zone threat. I would be very surprised if the Vikings thought he fits in with their goals. Wonderful human being and I am thankful for what he brought to the Vikings. Time to move forward.
ISJ absolutely has the resume and ability to be the guy. But until he does he's still a question mark to me.
IMO the TE group is the weakest link on this Offense.
There's a clear need/role that Rudy would fill.
He's 33 years old in November, but has only missed 4 games (2020) since 2015.
I say pull the trigger if they can make the numbers work.
I would say if ISJ gets injured again then go for it. Otherwise mehh

Rudy won't be sitting around in a week or two, he will be on a roster prior to camp, question is should it be the Vikings. I say if they can make it work cap wise then hell yes. To many question marks with ISjs knee and over all durability.
He'll likely get more $$ elsewhere...
I just dont see a guy like Rudy fitting into this chaotic movement, fast paced, progressive offense KOC is about to unleash on the Norris.
I'm not super excited about our TE situation as its filled with question marks. That said I think we really need to try and find someone younger and faster.

Why wouldn't they have the luxury of waiting? There was no market for him last year. He's now a year older and a step or ten slower for an already slow TE. If there was any legitimate market for him he would've signed by this point. These comment's and him choosing NOW to clarify the CK omission from his letter are straight outta the agent 101 playbook. Hoping for one last pay day, big or small. Nice guy, did a lot for the community. Not worth taking a roster spot from a young guy who can actually improve.
ISJ & Mundt are locks to make the team. We're talking about the #3 TE here. I'd rather see what the younger guys have before signing a vet like Rudolph.

I agree there's no hurry. Like Tretter, Suh, etc, these are players that likely won't sign until the 1st week of training camp when teams get their first look at what they've got. But there's a market for him. It may not be a big market--he's not going to get the 12M pay day he got last year with the Giants--but he'll land somewhere for about a third of that.I'd agree with you about the young guy If we actually had one. But here's the deal, just because you sign a guy like Rudy doesn't mean you can't cut him if he loses his competition with, say, Mundt, Zach Davidson, or whoever.

it was a mistake to let Tyler Conklin walk via UFA.

cant pay a #2 TE almost 7 mill per, which is what the jets gave him, when you are paying a veteran QB contract. Good for Conklin though, he deserves to make that kind of coin.

You're exactly right that you don't pay a TE2 7 mill per. But it has nothing to do with Cousins. It's about Irv, and the fact that Conklin was always going to go to a team offering a starting job. Because he earned it. But the Vikings obviously couldn't do that. Except for Matty, I don't know a person on the planet who thought Conklin would, could or should be back.

It kinda is about KC, the team would have love to keep Conklin as a #2 insurance policy for ISj ut you can't do that when you are paying a vet QB 35 million a year vs a 2md year QB less than 10. The Jets signed Conklin and another TE to similar contacts IIRC, and they should since the TE is the QBs best friend.
He was washed when he left. Now he's washed, spun, and hung out to dry.
Should the Vikings bring back Rudy?Sure, give him one of those 1 day contracts & send him fishing…! ;) B)
