With UCLA and USC joining the Big Ten, college football's future is two super-conferencesWith Southern California and UCLA leaving the Pac-12 to join the Big Ten in 2024, college football is taking an irreversible step toward the construction of two major conferences at the expense of tradition and the remaining Power Five leagues.
While viewed in administrative circles as a possibility since the first round of significant conference realignment a decade ago, the birth of these super leagues creates a chasm of space between the rest of the current Football Bowl Subdivision and the SEC and Big Ten.
USC and UCLA leaving the Pac-12 is the clearest signal yet that the top level of college football will center on dozens of teams married not by geography, rivalry or history but the chase for increasingly large media-rights payouts and broadcast deals.
Instead of merely a possibility, these super-conferences are now here.
Now that this latest conference realignment is official, the fallout will be swift and seismic.

They should develop a minor league football system, which is what college ball is, what is the point of these kids being in school?  How is a kid in CA seriously going to get all his classes in traveling to the east coast consistently.  Football is once a week, but what about the other sports like basketball and baseball that play throughout the week.  It is all greed and not about the kids at all.

its time to just make a separation of all sports and education at  all levels.  you have parents running their kids lives to get them onto traveling teams in grade school,  moving to different school districts to get them on better teams,  and all sorts of other shit that just takes away from the fun competition that school athletics are supposed to be.  make them all club sports and get the education dollar back to education.  hire teachers because they know their subject and are able to teach that subject, rather than they are a good coach.

we as a society are often putting more emphasis on the extra circulars than on the primary purpose of education.  lets worry more about what the kid can do after sports, than what we can do to make them a better athlete.

"But hey, it's all about the kids"

And the transfer portal isn't really  about Unrestricted Free Ageency in college sports, it's  about better education for the kids.

Super conferences get even more super. Texas and Oklahoma to the SEC now this. Couple friends of mine are UCLA fans and they actually seem excited about this move for them and USC.

Sounds like Notre Dame is going to the Big Ten as well.   Az, Colorado, and Az State to Big 12.  I think we will eventually see 4 major conferences with the two teams in the Conference Championships making a 12 team playoff.    The remaining 4 bids will be for at large schools with 12-0 records with a decent RPI and maybe some 3rd place finishers in the Super Conferences.

Doesnt ND have a contract that stipulates they must join the ACC if they give up their independent status?  I had also heard they were looking to get into the SEC earlier this week along with the big 10 rumors.

this is getting ridiculous, now i am hearing most of the pac 12 will be headed to the big 10 as well as possibly Clemson?  as many as 21 teams in the big "10"?   Why doesnt the NCAA just make the Big 4 conferences and put 10 programs in each of those conferences and the rest can battle it out with North Dakota for the consolation championship every year?
