So he's 29 years old now, 7 nfl seasons and was drafted back in 15...

Where the hell does the time go?

Had a rough ride with injuries. Got his bag o' money when he signed with the Bengals, so he should be good. SHOULD as you never know with professional athletes.

Yes, and that is another thing that Spelly did pretty well.  Knowing when to hold em' or when to fold em' :)

Most of the angst from fans around being GM is centered on their drafts but that is only a part of the overall job.

Hiring other player personnel/executives/scouts...and managing them.
Knowing when to resign your FA's or when not too
Knowing when to go after other teams FA's and not overpaying
Knowing when to trade a current player or when to trade for a player
Knowing how to maneuver around the draft board for value
Knowing salary cap ramifications
Knowing when to fire your HC
etc......
It's an extensive list of responsibilities no doubt.

Overall, Spelly was easily a TOP 10 GM over his "long" tenure and he will be given another opportunity in short order.

Going back to Waynes...he was easily part of Spelly's best draft that included him, Kendricks, Hunter, Diggs all excellent decisions.
Not pursuing resigning Waynes as a FA was the right decision.
Trading disgruntled Diggs for good value (then selected JJ) was the right decision just like Harvin years before.
Sticking with Kendricks and Hunter until his end was also the right decision.
Sticking with his first HC hire too long was the wrong decision that cost him his job in the end - IMO.

Not drafting more QB prospects was his ultimate failure.  Trying to protect the psyche of Ponder, Teddy, whomever... whatever his rational caused the Bradford trade, the Cousins signing and ultimately the failure of the team.  I like cousins, he should be able to do the job, but at what cost?

Oh and his blindspot for the offensive line until it was too late also was a huge problem.

Like being almost stood up on prom night.  Life just flows like water on river stones for these young men.

True but that is quite normal at that stage of life.

Yep. But Al, the road forward has a myriad of pathways. One slight turn for some is a lifetime of despair. Having someone that keeps you mostly moving forward with a gentle nudge towards center is everything.

It is....but that's when parental guidance kicks in. Some don't have that, I get that. Yet life's everyday is tenuous. Be the advocate. At some point, our kids have to do better for themselves.

Of course that is a factor but people mature differently also there is a lot of insecurity and uncertainty in football.

I don't think its football related, its lower income related. Street cred in professional sports. Doesn't align as Trae is a commodity. Rich man's game.

It could be both. He was looking for security, nothing wrong with that. Football culture wants you to be tough all the time. A lot of people want to elevate nothing wrong with that, it is called having dreams and goals to aspire to. He wanted to know where where he was going. Some people will say he is being petty or bitter and maybe so but it makes sense why nothing came out before.

He was going to get security regardless. He knew he would be top 15. He's just being very immature, which is par for the course, situationally. This wasn't going to be impact his 'dreams', they were coming. You can call out young people for their mistakes, it's fine. I think Trae saying this is actually mature, its a retrospective take. We need to hold young people accountable for things, not everything can be rationalized away.
