meh

I expect they'll include void years.

Looks like a re-run of the same team last year that missed the playoffs.

I can only pray now.

I'm surprised. Didn't think his asking and our offering would match up. But this is good. P2 will be a good mentor for the rookie.

I like it. I think it really allows us to go BPA in the first round and grab a corner in the second round if that wasn't a corner in the 1st.

What are you talking about? How many new defensive starters did you want? It’s a one year deal by the way.

The defense now has a new starting DE, a new starting DT, a new starting LB, two new CBs for depth, a new starting G (likely), and a new lineman for depth.

We will enter the season with Irv Smith currently healthy, same goes for Hunter. We also seemed prepared to enter with a new starting safety in Bynum. It’s not a re-run at all

Have to say I like it, as many positive influences you can have in the beginning of things, the better.  As long as it doesn't cost you too much.   PP has one year here and has no real blood loyalty, he's just looking forward to the short term success.  If he likes what he sees, good enough for me.  PP  looks good in purple too.  This is consistent with my feelings about BRob 96 having  to go before his time,  players swim better in a deeper pool, which is best for the team and us fans, gives the team character.

Agree.  We need CB's and Peterson had a few games of shutdown followed by some very average but overall, I think he was our best Corner on the year.  I was most disappointed in Mac because I really thought he was a good slot corner...Opps!  Then I fell for the whole free agent signing thingee where because we signed him they are an automatic above average player and nail down that spot - Breeland - certainly not a plug and play starter.

I like resigning PP and Dantzler but we are still thin as a razor at CB.  Speaking of plug and play starter we have 2 awesome pass rushers with both coming off injuries, so do we pass on a very deep DE class?  Or what about the middle - Tomlinson who did little and Philips are they enough that if one of the interior fall that we pass on them?  We have a lot of needs and when it is all said and done we are going to see at least 7-9 new starters of the 22.  Plus we are moving to a 3-4.

I like it. Even with some of the same players there are still going to be scheme changes and different coaches. I know everyone wants everything now but it is still a work in progress.

We will enter the season with Irv Smith currently healthy, same goes for Hunter. We also seemed prepared to enter with a new starting safety in Bynum. It’s not a re-run at all

The new DE is had back surgery last year and only played 18 snaps in week 1 and 19 snaps in the playoff loss to the 49ers.
The starting DT is replacing a starting DT. That move is a push with Phillips being 20 to 30 lbs lighter and 3 years younger.
The starting LB is replacing a starting LB (Barr). Hicks is a few months younger and they are about equal but Hicks might be a better fit on the inside.
Sullivan is an slight upgrade over Alexander who had his worst year last year. Funny that many blame coaching for last year but Mac is still a bum.
Tye Smith may not even make the team.
Jesse Davis played badly at tackle but was kind of meh at right guard in 2018 (or 2019) and for a few games in 2020.
Bynum is worse than Woods and has yet to play 16 games.
Peterson is aight but I think he is heading downhill in his career.

It does not feel like too many upgrades at all.  I look forward to the draft as always but have no expectations from any of the draftees.  Not in the first year.

So, yes, I am praying now.

But I see you.

Saying you dont think guys are an upgrade is way different than saying it’s a re-run of the same team. On paper, this defenseis better than the last two seasons. Just need guys to stay healthy

FWIW,  on paper there were some talking superbowl with last year's paper team.

I dont see the big improvements as the biggest signing has huge question marks (Smith health) and the other areas of weakness are still likely areas of weakness ( OL and DB )  i still think the failure by this front office to thus far put adequate protection in front of Cousins, after passing on their best chance to move on from him and guaranteeing him more money is the dark cloud of this off-season so far for me.

I don't know if I would agree. In terms of talent, last year's roster was one for the ages. We replaced Pierce with Phillips, Barr with Hicks, Griffen with Z Smith and Woods with Bynum. The 22 guys have more upside, but I'd say only Z Smith is the obvious immediate upgrade. And we could see some age-related decline from Harry.

If we add a CB1, pushing P2, Dantzler and Sullivan down the org chart, I might agree. But as always, health is the key. As it was last year....and the year before....

Coming into last year we had no idea if Pierce was going to be in shape so I consider Phillips an upgrade there. I think Barris just a big name and has had 2 good seasons in his career, while also insanely injury prone the last 3 years so I feel better about bringing in another LB. No one was really excited about Breeland and he showed why...he's gone. Last year we thought it would be wise to bring back an old DE with severe mental health issues and we no longer have that...Smith is coming off an injury but the contract mitigates this risk IMO. We can differ on opinions with it, but I think the defense will be much better this year.

Oh I think the defense will be better this year too. My God it better be, with all the injuries we had and Zimmer losing his mind...and the team. I'm just talking in terms of talent. I don't factor in proneness to injury because every team has them and they're impossible to predict when and to whom they will happen.

Good move to get old man Peterson back in the DB room and locker room too. I have a feeling the Vikings are going to add 2 more db's to the roster this draft.

These kids need to see how to go about becoming a pro.
