Cousins Extended
Cousins gets a raise to $40 million in 2022, $55 million payable by next March and a no-trade clause.
Damn, you’re quick… B) lowered his cap figure by about 14m per Tom P…

i dont think this is done yet, seems that the money and no trade are to protect kirk while the team is working for options, while giving the team room to move him to a team of his choosing.

So we lowered his cap number and extended him at basically his current rate?
I’ve been vocal about wanting to move on from Kirk but I can’t be mad about this. Gives us 2 drafts to find The Guy to replace Kirk while also allowing us to see what KC can do under the new regime with no true longterm commitment.
With the Wilfs reportedly relunctant to “blow it up,” this feels like a deal that will satisfy all parties. And for me it’s infinitely better than a 4- or 5-year deal that had been bandied about by some.
It’s not what I would have done, but I can tip my cap on this. Good job Vikings.

Now, do they collect '23 picks by trading someone?Win-win: The #Vikings save almost $14 million on the 2022 salary cap and don’t have to worry about Kirk Cousins – who they think will thrive under Kevin O’Connell – being in a contract year. Cousins gets a raise, more guaranteed money and control over his future via the no-trade.
In related news, 2 heads were prevented from exploding today…story at 11pm. ;)
but i don't want to lose Cook and Theilen to pay KC. makes no sense to extend him and then take away his weapons--to say nothing of Hunter or Kendricks. draft picks are chancy things. these guys are proven. With Cousins in the fold now, i think the word must be "restructure" not "rebuild."
I can get behind this. I would have loved to get in the Watson sweepstakes but they probably found out it would be too rich to do. I am just glad that this is settled now for the immediate future at least

--1 new year at $35M fully guaranteed
--No-trade clause
--$40M in 2022
--2 void years to lower cap hits

based on what we know now, we lost. ( i reserve my right to change my mind based on the watson trade compensation_)
Well, more details to come. But this sure feels like a win/win for now...That doesnt happen often
This is a great deal. It allows a bridge to our future and gives the rookie stud we draft next year a year to learn.

With Cousins in the fold now, i think the word must be "restructure" not "rebuild."I don't want to lose anyone either, but the QB is 90% of the puzzle. Cook might rank higher among backs than Cousins does among QBs, but finding a back who can give us close to what Cook does is many times easier than finding a QB who can give us close to what Cousins does.
Plus, the Cousins extension makes it easier to pay those guys, not harder.
Cap is basically flat now, we're not losing anyone due to $$$$. Convert/ extend Hunter, and we are shopping.
