Deshaun Watson invoked the fifth for about three hours this morning in depositions for two lawsuits accusing him of sexual misconduct. Simultaneously, about a mile away a grand jury is meeting, and Watson could be criminally charged today:

He is screwed in the civil lawsuit by pleading the fifth.  Pleading the fifth can't be used against you in a criminal proceeding but it can in a civil case.

All true.  But the grand jury just came back: no indictment.  Looks like the threat of criminal prosecution is done. He would have to testify at the trials of the civil suits and can explain away invoking the 5th as following lawyer's instructions.

Except keep in mind that not being indicted by a grand jury does not prevent him being indicted by a future grand jury.  Double jeopardy does not apply to the decision of a grand jury.  Therefore, if he says something incriminating during a civil proceeding, they can bring that evidence to a new grand jury.  Watson is only in the clear if (a) the statute of limitations runs or (b) a criminal jury has be empaneled and he is found not guilty or the prosecution is dropped.

I don't know enough to comment on if the dude is guilty of liking massages that come with happy endings or not.  He is a sinner.  No doubt.  So am I.

There were two allegations of sexual "assault" which the grand jury did not have enough to let it go to trial.

But there is not much talk about this being a money grab and how all the charges really started to come up after he said he wanted out.  The lawyer for ALL of the women (was it a class action suit) is good friends with the Texans owner.

Something ain't right with all of the women having the same lawyer.  That is quite the coup to be able to get all the women to sign up with one lawyer.

Regardless of all of that, if he is not charged criminally then there really is not much to go on besides "he said, she said".

I'll never forget George Carlin talking about prostitution.
