I like his experience as a player as well. I know some people were freaking out about lack of experience. His experience is varied and with some pretty amazing coaches. He is super motivated and said he was literally going upstairs to work after the presser. There has been more than enough doom and gloom with the whole Harbaugh leverage play. And then the talking heads started shit with McVay supposedly retiring. I am just going to enjoy the ride and see what happens.

Yeah, and ten bucks says we bring in one of the Rams backup QBs.
Not sure if it was a bit or not, but heard on KFan yesterday that the Vikings were after Ryan Fitzpatrick.   I didn't get to keep listening though to see if it was legit.

Against the Rams on Dec. 26, Barr had 2 interceptions and six tackles - his best game of the 2021 season. Barr's comments in Week 18 made it seem like he was headed towards UFA, but the way O'Connell talked about him yesterday sounds like the team could want to keep him around.

I thought he came across as bright, sincere, earnest, principled. I kept looking for the grumpy football coach, its gotta be in there somewhere.

We'll see how he handles adversity, executes against a vision etc.

All the change out there is a little mind-boggling right now.

My wife watched the presser with me after I got home from work and shoveled snow. So, it was a bit late in the evening.

She mentioned the fact that he didn’t look angry all the time like Zimmer did, even after a win.
One of the things that always bothered me about Zim was he didn’t show a lot of positive emotions. Sure there was the brief smile or the post game locker room speech that was ok, or somewhat uplifting. But, he always seemed gruff, even after a win.
In the business world, the places I’ve always liked working at were when we celebrated our success. A win is a win, even if it’s a fluke bounce off the helmet reception for a TD that wins the game after you’ve played like shit all day. Celebrate that in the moment, and move on o getting better.
I think that was missing during Zim’s entire career in Minnesota. Not that he didn’t celebrate some, but you need to make players know they did well.

So describing your MVP candidate QB as having a horse shoe up his ass probably wasn't "celebrating" someone's success?

I figured the press would latch on to that.

My $ is on that comment was lack of deep familiarity vs a sign Barr will be with the team next year.

Yeah that pissed me off. I mean would it kill you to praise a quarterback?

Hopefully doing things similar to LA's offense is drafting Alec Pierce in the third and turning him into Cooper Kupp :)

Theres no way he didnt know the likleyhood of Barr on or off the team was. Maybe contract negotiation change but based off yesterday, I expect Barr back.

Well based on what it sounds like they are trying to implement defensively Barr would be the perfect fit. My concern with him more is can he stay healthy at this point in his career and what's the price tag look like?

Just something on Donnatell and Florio brought this up in the other thread...but he has not been good as a defensive coordinator in prior stops where he was the man calling the defense and scheming. Fangio was the one calling the defense in Denver, similar to Zimmer. So we are hitching our collective wagons on a head coach who's never called his own plays, and a defensive coordinator who's been awful in prior stops and was essentially a George Edward's type figure in Denver the last three years. Having Mike Pettine as his sidekick does nothing for me. So I'm very curious to see what exactly this coverage scheme is that's "hard for offenses to go against."

You may be right. But we are at a new starting point with respect to management. We have a new GM who has never been a GM and a new HC who has never been a HC.  I am certain these guys want, even more than any of us, to succeed in their new, high profile positions. Kwesi chose the KOC and KOC will choose his own assistants. All we can as fans is have some faith in these guys to get it right.

He also doesn't take himself too seriously. He can actually joke about himself. I think he is going to be surrounded by supportive people that will help the overall success of the team. There is going to be good communication as well. I am looking forward to a fresh approach to the draft and free agency as well as training camp.

Yeah, that seems legitimate.  The players seemed to communicate this as well.

Sorry, but that comment was spot on.  And it was true, the horseshoe fell out twice in the playoffs that really cost us our chance.  In the second half against NO that turned the momentum of the game and then again in Philly when we were up 7-0 and had forced a 3 and out.

He really did a great job and I was impressed with what he said and how he delivered some of his responses and comments. The only knock is how many compliments he had for Barr...makes me nervous they will make a mistake there haha

Or what if they are able to channel his strengths and get the best from him? Anything is possible. Maybe he needs a fresh approach to his game as well.

Would be nice, wouldn't it? Just don't think that's possible for a guy who struggles to see the field consistently

KOC said they are going to run a base 3-4, but it will be a multi front defense. Offenses may see multiple fronts on a single drive. The idea spot for Barr has always been as an attacking backer in a base 3-4 system. He could be a superstar with his athleticism at the position. As far as injuries, I have confidence this group won’t pull the kind bullshit Zimmer pulled on him. Zimmer made him take too many practice Reps even with the trainers telling him to lay off of him. The trainers would flat out tell Zimmer he is at great risk of injury and Zimmer didn’t give an F. Zimmer was a piece of shit the more I learn about him.
Will they get a deal done? I think so and hope so. Barr would be a beast in such a system. You’d have him coming from all different angles. He’ll scare the crap out of opposing QB’s. Olines will be forced to always account for him. I’ve always wanted him used this way, Zimmer just rarely stepped outside of his comfort zone.
