Ed, Edward, Eddie, It's Donatell
@"JustinTime18™" said:Thats good news - Everything I was reading the past week said he was hired by the Seahawks as their DC / DB coach or some "senior" coaching roll - In fact some sites said he was hired! LOL! Sorry Seattle! With Ed Donatell hired as the Vikings' new DC, Minnesota will almost certainly be running a 3-4 defense for the first time in a long time. It's going to be very interesting to see what that means for their roster construction this offseason.

Then again, do what you gotta do to be competitive on both sides of the ballKendricks is a badass and I predict he will be a stud in a 3-4, especially if he gets to play the weakside spot. That said he wasnt dominant last year and early 30’s may catch up to him.
I have confidence that Pierce, Tomlinson, Watts and Lynch will keep him clean enough to do what he does.

They couldn't keep him clean last year and we were awful against the run. We could walk away from Pierces contract a d save some against the cap. Unfortunately we are stuck with Tomlinson. As has been mentioned in other posts, moving to a 34 could put Jordan Davis and Travis Jones in play for us on draft day
Should be fun watching the Vikings try to run a 3-4 when they don't even have 4 linebackers :p

Money is spent on the back end and the edges. You might as well try to move him for draft picks and save the 9 million on his salary.
Also wondering if changing to a 3-4 brings the possibility of Anthony Barr staying as he seems like a perfect fit. If the choice is between retaining Barr or Kendricks then it's Anthony Barr every time in a 3-4 defense
Bummer, Kendricks has been one of our best D players for last several years... Hate to see him leave... Change is in the air!

Keeping Keenan McCardell is an option at WRs. Wes Phillips is a rumored option at OC.
Mark confirmed with me that each of his 18 knee surgeries did indeed hurt.
This hiring is surprising to me...My $ was on the guy from the Lions.
Still not buying they'll switch to 3/4. Maybe as Guru said, some 3/4 looks now and then.

If you look around the NFL, the teams that run a 3-4 have ILBs you need a game-day program to identify. No names all around. It's like cover-two corners. You can pick one up at the 7-11 in Bloomington. So if Kendricks is not a fit, it's more due to his salary than anything.

I think that 7-11 must have closed, Zimmer couldnt find a corner to save his ass or his job the last couple years when he needed one or three.I agree on Kendrick, he is the C of the D, but if they are going a new direction with a lot of new faces on that side of the ball, his cap money might be better spent on securing players that are more specialized in the 3-4 or at least guys that will be in a position to have a bigger impact. I would hate to see him go because he plays with so much intensity and passion, but its the dawn of a new era of Vikings football and we fans need to be ready to embrace the changes needed to make it a successful one.

We need to be prepared for a serious roster makeover, including most likely fan favorites, get your popcorn ready! B)

One of the reasons I was not in favor of switching over to a 3-4 defense. If it doesn't work out and they lose Kendricks/Hunter in the process, I'll personally fly to Minneapolis to shove that bag of popcorn up whomever's ass is most responsible. It's a big transition and I hope they know what they are doing.

I would wait and see what the get in return, and also how those lost players round out their careers. Hunters track isn't the best and if they could get a couple high round picks for him the would be great since that would relieve the cap crunch right there. The next 8 weeks are going to be some of the most exciting offseason weeks this franchise has had in a long time. We went though the shit to get to this point so I am going to just try and find some silver linings coming out of it all. New dawn.
